Weekly Rec: Healing & Empowerment Event, John Green House Celebration, Rockland Symphony Orchestra

Healing & Empowerment

Saturday, November 23 from 11:00am-Noon, Nyack Center

In response to the recent wave of hateful messages targeting people of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ communities, we’re coming together this Saturday morning in Nyack to offer support, tools, and resources for mental health and wellbeing.

This event is designed to help parents and children address anxiety, trauma, and fears, while empowering them to feel safe and strong in their bodies and minds. Let’s come together to build a resilient, caring community where everyone belongs.

John Green House Celebrates Installation of 8  New Windows

Saturday, November 23 from 10:00am-Noon, Foot of Main Street

The windows and door were made possible through a grant of $8,109.75  from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution  (D.A.R.) that was matched by supporters of the John Green House.  Installation was completed by labor donated by Sirois Construction and volunteers

The John Green House, built around 1820, is the only historic Dutch-style sandstone building in Nyack. The John Green Preservation Coalition is restoring the house to serve as an exhibition center for the people of Nyack.

The Rockland Symphony Orchestra is pleased to invite audiences to their opening concert of the 2024 season, presenting a potpourri of “Classical Delights” which will include some larger orchestral show-stoppers, under the baton of Conductor and Music Director Nicole Peragine.

Rhapsody in Blue, originally intended for piano soloist and concert band, will be played in Ferde Grofe’s arrangement for full symphony orchestra. (An intermission will follow.)

Strauss Overture to the ‘Gypsy Baron’ operetta, in which Hungarian Gypsy themes intermingle delightfully with Straussian Viennese waltzes.

Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G minor

Elgar ‘Nimrod’ variation from his ‘Enigma Variations’. This particularly lush variation was in honor of his friend Jaeger, the German word for hunter as is Nimrod in the Bible.
