A host of hearty hikers kicked off 2025 with a little adventure and camaraderie at Nyack Beach State Park on New Year’s Day. The hike, which included informational talks and literature, as well as hot drinks and cool music inside the beautiful stone Old Hook Mountain bathhouse.

(For example: did you know the bathhouse building was originally a powerhouse for the rock quarry operations back in the 19th Century before it became a recreational destination for day-trippers from New York City? Neither did we (most of us)! Read more about the bathhouse and Nyack Beach State Park from our historian Mike Hays here.)

Fortunately, our intrepid winter beach combing photographer Andrea Swenson was on hand to document all the New Year’s Day action.

The event was hosted by the Palisades Parks Conservancy, sponsored by Champlain Hudson Power Express, La Promenade (the Bergen-based bakery opening a new shop in the old Hartell’s location in Upper Nyack) and The Family Pet Store. Other partners included local groups like the Friends of River Hook and Friends of Rockland Lake and Hook Mountain and local retailer Long Path Outfitters. Enjoy!
