The Villages: Meter Makover Means New Look Nyack

A snow emergency was declared for the Village of Nyack beginning 2p Sunday afternoon in response to yesterday’s snowstorm.  Regular Monday trash pick-up has been rescheduled to Tues March 5.
This week in the villages: Things will look different around the village this spring. The parking meters are getting a makeover and there will be a new app to pay for parking. For now, though, the Village Board wants your input on public transportation and how it can be improved. And if you cross the Mario Cuomo Bridge, there will be Rockland-bound lane closures again this week.

Message from Nyack Mayor Don Hammond

There’s Will Be an App for That

Beginning this spring, paid parking will be a little be easier in the Village of Nyack. The current muni-meters will be replace by Pay-by-Plate parking meters that will accept credit, debit cards, and coins. To see how to use the new meters, watch this instructional video.

You will also be able to pay via a new smartphone app–and, if necessary, add time to the meter via the app without having to return to your car. More details coming soon.

Transit Survey

The Village Board is conducting a survey to assist in understanding how Nyack residents are using the local public transit systems that serve the village, and how these systems could better serve residents. If you use (or might consider using) public transportation in Nyack, complete this short survey so that the village can assess the needs. The results of the survey may be used to press for additional outside funding to improve Nyack’s public transit systems.

Mario Cuomo Bridge News

Valley Cottage resident Elizabeth Fischer says there’s a fundamental misunderstanding about the Shared Use Path on the Mario Cuomo Bridge. When it opens this fall, it will be more than a recreational amenity — it’s a new transportation corridor which can help encourage greener, healthier, car free commuting by bicycle and e-bike. Her reasoning? The NYS Thruway doesn’t build parks — they build transportation systems. Read her op-ed, Mario Cuomo Bridge Shared Use Path Hours Should Be 24/7.
