Nyack July 10 — The Nyack Chamber of Commerce turns back the clock on Thurs July 10 to the era of big fins and pedestrian malls. Main Street between Franklin and Broadway will be closed to vehicles from 5p to dusk to make way for Nyack’s 3rd Annual Classic Car Night.
It’s more than a little bit ironic that a vintage car event will be showcased on a car-free Main Street. However, many of these beauties hail from the same era as when pedestrian malls first became popular. According to Wikipedia, there are at least 75 permanent pedestrian malls in the US today including Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market in Boston, South Street Seaport in NYC, Washington Street Mall in Cape May, Ithaca Commons and Buffalo Place Main Street Pedestrian Mall in New York State. Nyack joins that list for an afternoon, with parking on Main Street restricted after 1p and the street closed to all traffic after 3:30p.
Good weather and 80 degree temperatures are predicted for Classic Car Night. But just in case the weatherman proves to be a fickle friend, Thursday, July 17 has been reserved as the rain date for this event. For more information visit nyackchamber.org
