Rivertown Film presents Chris Rock’s documentary Good Hair on Saturday 2/20 at The Nyack Center. A panel discussion featuring an eclectic group of professionals ‘€“ who have a lot to say about that crowning glory ‘€“ follows.
Starring Chris Rock, Al Sharpton and Maya Angelou, ‘€œGood Hair’€ explores the long-standing and complex manner in which hairstyles within the African-American community impact both self-esteem and the pocketbook. Alternately hilarious and revealing, the film’s charm springs from its deeply funny and fearless front man (Rock) and the women-and men who are so ready to dish about their ‘€˜do’s ‘€“ and what it takes to maintain them.
Nyack’s Toma Holley, owner of Toma’s Boutique and an RCC Professor of Fashion, leads the post-panel discussion. Participants include Dr. Lorna Oliver, a cognitive behavioral therapist, Arli Blake, an award-winning pioneer in hair extensions and hair design, and Valley Cottage attorney, Gail Ricketts. Refreshments will also be available for a donation.
The film begins at 7:30p. Tickets are $9/General Admission, $7/Students, Seniors and General Members, and $6/Students-Senior Members. They can be purchased via the website, www.rivertownfilm.org by phone, 800-838-3006, or at the door.
