Cuomo, Schumer & Gillibrand, Engel, Carlucci, Jaffee

The Seattle Post Intelligencer said it best: The Son Also Rises. Andrew Cuomo will be the next governor of New York, cruising to an election victory last night with 62 percent of the vote defeating Republican Tea Party favorite Carl Paladino. His father, Mario Cuomo, held the job from 1983 to 1994.

In Rockland County, Democrat David Carlucci defeated Republican Scott Vanderhoef to be the next NYS Senator from the 38th district taking 53 percent of the vote. Democrat Ellen Jaffee was re-elected to the State Assembly for the 95th district defeating Thomas Morr (R), 61 to 39 percent.

Democrat Eric Schneiderman will succeed Cuomo as attorney general, having defeated Republican Daniel Donovan 55 to 44 percent. US Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand will return to Washington and Congressman Eliot Engel (D) thumped his Republican rival and a Conservative challenger taking 71 percent of the vote.

Attorney General Thomas DiNapoli was elected in a close race, defeating Republican Harry Wilson 50 to 47 percent in a race that see-sawed back and forth throughout the night as election returns came in.
