Tappan Zee Bridge News

Will The New Bus System Get A Dedicated Bus Lane on the new bridge? When the new Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (GMMCB) Tappan Zee Bridge opens in 2018, there will be a new bus system that replaces Rockland County’s Tappan Zee Express. On Tues Sept 26 from 6p-8p, the NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) hosts a public meeting to discuss whether the new LHTL (Lower Hudson Transit Link) buses should get their own lane to speed Rockland commuters to Metro North and other Westchester destinations. The public is invited to an open house in the Alder Room on the 4th Floor of the Palisades Center (1000 Palisades Center Drive, West Nyack).
Overnight Lane Closures
This week, Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) will mill and pave sections of the southbound/eastbound New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) near the landings of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. The work will prepare the area for the shift in southbound/eastbound traffic to the new bridge, and require multiple overnight lane closures between exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) and exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9).
TZC is also scheduled to move necessary equipment near the Westchester landing on Wednesday night, requiring a single southbound/eastbound traffic stop at midnight. State Police will hold traffic in the four southbound/eastbound Thruway lanes near the bridge for up to 15 minutes.
