Hitchcock’s Psycho at GARNER Arts Center

Did you know that on the road from Nyack to Garnerville, the house that inspired Edward Hopper’s iconic painting House by the Railroad still stands proud? And…that this painting and house would inspire Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, Psycho?
What better way for the GARNER Arts Center to help celebrate the 55th Anniversary of Edward Hopper Museum & Study Center and the 25th Anniversary of Rivertown Film to show Psycho on the side of a historic building for their Annual Outdoor Summer Film.
This year, the experience begins at 5 p.m. when you check into the “Bates Motel” (aka the newly renovated Warehouse at Hudson’s Mill, overlooking the Minisceongo Creek) for the Hitchcock Experience.
Pick up a souvenir Bates Motel Keychain and enter a Room Raffle to win an 18 x 24 print of a classic Bill Batson drawing of the very same house that inspired Hopper and Hitchcock and 4 tickets to a screening at Rivertown Film.
Then snap a picture of yourself in the Black & White photo booth gussied up for the pre-film costume contest before you enjoy a 3 course price fixed themed dinner (it might be hard to choose between Norman’s Fried Chicken, the Bates Burger & the Marion Verde Taco).
After dinner, grab a GARNER Arts Walk Map and wander the Pre-Civil War alleyways of the Garner Historic District looking for Hitchcock cameos hidden amidst stunning art installations by local artists such as Lisa Levart and Kris Campbell, on your way to Dye Works Square to see PSYCHO at 8 p.m. while sipping a rustic ale from the on-site Round Table Brewery.

The Lighthouse Swim

The Lighthouse Swim returns to the Hudson River on Sunday, August 30, bringing swimmers together for a unique three-mile crossing from Nyack to Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow in support of Feeding Westchester and other local charities.
Whether you’re participating, volunteering, or cheering from the shoreline, the Lighthouse Swim is a beautiful and challenging way to support a meaningful cause while enjoying one of the region’s signature waterfront events.
Nyack Jazz Festival
Sunday, August 30, 1–7 p.m., Maureen’s Jazz Cellar, 2 N Broadway, Nyack
The Nyack Jazz Festival brings an extraordinary lineup of jazz musicians to the streets of downtown Nyack for a free outdoor concert in front of Maureen’s Jazz Cellar.
The festival features the Gunhild Carling/Idun Carling Quintet (5:50–7 p.m.), Carl Burnett Trio (4:40–5:30 p.m.), Steven Bernstein’s Sexmob (3:30–4:20 p.m.), Ravi Coltrane, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Joe Locke, Neal Caine & David Budway (2:10–3:10 p.m.), and the David Janeway Quintet (1:00–1:50 p.m.).
There will be food trucks, two outdoor bars, and artisan vendors. The event is family-friendly. Limited seating is provided, so bring a lawn chair.
No coolers or outside alcoholic drinks.

Soul Mission Book Signing and Reading with Joshua Becker

The Forgotten Occupation: Screening and Q&A

Join the Lower Hudson Valley Democratic Socialists of America’s International Commission for a screening of the documentary, The Forgotten Occupation, followed by a Q&A and discussion with the film’s director, Alain Martin.
The documentary revisits the U.S. occupation of Haiti through a letter to Martin’s grandfather, unraveling the paradox of a man who longed for American rule and a nation scarred by it. Blending intimate memory with sweeping history, the film explores exile, love, and the uneasy truths at the heart of freedom.
Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to an organization supporting local Haitian immigrant communities, which have recently come under increased threat following the Supreme Court’s ruling on Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Admission is a suggested donation of $15. As long as space is available, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The waterfront groove is in full swing at Nyack’s Memorial Park with free performances featuring Herve Alexandre at 4 p.m., followed by the smooth jazz sounds of Mark Morganelli and the Jazz Forum All-Stars at 5 p.m.

Fall Fest Street Fair
Sunday, September 13, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Main St and Broadway, Nyack
Main Street and Broadway will come alive with 200+ curated vendors offering jewelry, art, photography, collectibles, antiques, handmade crafts, unique gifts and much more. This year’s fair is thoughtfully organized into three special zones—a Family Zone, an Arts Zone and a Live Music Zone—along with great food, outdoor dining and live entertainment. Fairgoers can also explore Nyack’s many shops, pubs and restaurants, along with local businesses.
Sunday parking is free throughout Nyack, both on the street and in the village’s five municipal parking lots. The event takes place rain or shine.
Fall Fest is produced for the Nyack Chamber of Commerce by Trade + Prosper, an event producer whose mission is to support makers and businesses by creating connections, celebrating creativity and culture, and opening opportunities for growth.
