Last Friday, as part of its 250th birthday party for the United States, Nyack held a moving ceremony in Veterans-Easter Memorial Square on a sweltering Friday afternoon that featured speeches and writing from both the founding and future of America.

The event, hosted by the Village and mayor Joe Rand, included a reading of the Declaration of Independence and an unveiling of a “2026 time capsule,” which was filled with memorabilia capturing this historic milestone.

It also included a celebration of the next generation of American thinkers and writers as awards were presented to student winners of the patriotic art and essay contests.

Our fireworks show crescendo of a photographer, Andrea Swenson, captured the event in our latest photo shoot. (Scroll down for more photos and a full slide show.)
