Open Mic with Featured Poet Kevin Goodman

Wednesday, May 27, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Big Red Books, 120 Main St, Nyack

Kevin Goodan was born in Montana and raised on the Flathead Indian Reservation where his stepfather and brothers are tribal members. Goodan earned his BA from the University of Montana and worked as a firefighter for ten years with the U.S. Forest Service before receiving his MFA from University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2004. He has taught at the University of Connecticut and has served as Visiting Writer at Wesleyan University. He is author of Spot Weather Forecast, Anaphora, Let the Voices, and Upper Level Disturbances. He lives in the Upper Valley Region of New Hampshire, and operates a logging and milling enterprise.

Nyack Chamber of Commerce Networking Social

Wednesday, May 27, 6 p.m., Nyack Ridge Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 476 Christian Herald Rd, Valley Cottage

Nyack Chamber of Commerce Treasurer and Director of Medicare at Emerald Medicare Mark Brownstein will give a presentation entitled Understanding Recent Changes in Healthcare in Medicare.

Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome.

Rockland Photography Club at the Hidden Treasure Gallery

All Together Now Chorus Spring Concert

Sunday, May 31, 6 p.m., The Angel Nyack, 18 S Broadway, Nyack

As a gift to the community, the All Together Now Chorus will perform it’s Spring Recital at the Angel Nyack. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., reception to follow at 7 p.m. Meet the chorus and join the sing along to Bob Marley’s, One Love. As always our recital is free but donations are encouraged. Come hear how you can join us in the fall. We invite all, no matter your music ability. Music spreads joy, please join us.

Nyack’s 16th Annual African-American Day Parade and Festival

Saturday, June 6 (June 13 rain date), parade starts at noon at Nyack Memorial Park

The parade leaves Memorial Park proceeding west on Depew Avenue to Franklin Street, north to Main Street, east to Broadway, south to Depew then returning to the park.

Parade Marshalls are: Nikki Hines, Vivian England and the Hon. Toney Earl.

The festival following the parade included entertainment, vendors, food, music, face painting and more.
