Our roundup of events this week includes an exhibit of artworks created by Hopper’s Nyack Flash Sketch Mob participants, a community sing-in, concerts at Rockland Center for the Arts, and at the Angel Nyack, a family friendly magic show, and more.

Are You a Librarian? The Untold Story of Black Librarians

Are You a Librarian? The Untold Story of Black Librarians is a compelling documentary that lifts the veil on a crucial yet neglected chapter in American history. Spanning from the antebellum period through Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, and into the 21st century, the film showcases the work of Black librarians who turned public libraries into spaces of resistance, empowerment, and truth.

Art Reception for Celebrating A Community Vision: Hopper’s Nyack Sketch Mob Exhibition

Saturday, March 14, 3:00 – 5:00pm, Nyack Library, 59 S Broadway, Nyack

Experience the vibrant, collaborative spirit of Nyack through Hopper’s Nyack Sketch Mob, two public art outings created and organized by NyackNewsAndView’s own Bill Batson, a dedicated exhibition featuring more than 40 drawings and paintings. The works capture Nyack’s streetscapes, landmarks, and neighborhood scenes, showcasing art created by participants of all ages and skill levels during the Edward Hopper House Museum’s 2024 and 2025 Plein Air events.

Also, on Sunday, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm attend a talk about the increasing poplar practice of public artmaking entitled: Public Sketching: Hopper’s Sketch Mob and Urban Sketchers – How Art Making Becomes Community Building,” in the Nyack Library’s Community Room.

Join panelist Kathie Bennewitz, Executive Director, Edward Hopper House Museum, Bill Batson of Bill Batson Arts, Kay Copp Brown of Urban Sketchers Nyack, Raylie Dunkel and Charles Cannizzaro of NYC Urban Sketchers, and Cathy Gutterman of Westchester NYC Urban Sketchers.

R David Robinson, a NYC-based magician, has created children’s shows in the NYC-metropolitan area for decades.  He was assistant to renowned magician David Copperfield, and performs annually with the Morgan Library Christmas show.

Concert to Benefit River Hook

We can’t wait for spring to come, so let’s celebrate a bit early with some beautiful music while supporting The Friends of River Hook in its efforts to continue the beautification of our preserve. The concert will feature a fabulous assembly of world class musicians.

11th Annual New York Fathering Conference

Tuesday, March 17, 8:00am – 4:00pm, Westchester County Center, 198 Central Ave, White Plains

Nyack Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bill Batson and two other Rocklanders, filmmaker Shaunqui Harris and social worker Saul Martinez will participate in an afternoon breakout session which will explore the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of spending time in nature. The events’ featured speaker is Tony Porter, an educator and activist who is internationally recognized for his effort to end violence against women. Click here to register.

Starting Little Gem

Zoe Friedberg, owner of Little Gem Farm, will discuss sustainable agriculture, CSA programs, and eating local.

Little Gem Farm is a small-scale diversified vegetable and flower farm on the fertile black dirt in Chester, NY. Since 2023, Zoe has been growing high quality, diverse, and sustainably grown produce for her community in the Lower Hudson Valley.

As a child, Zoe attended the Nyack Farmers Market where she has been a popular vendor since 2023. Little Gem Farm will be back at the Nyack Farmers Market in May and throughout the season with garden seedlings, fresh vegetables, and pesticide-free flowers.

Bring Back the Music: A Hot Night of Jazz with KJ Denhert

Melt the frost with Edward Hopper House Museum for an unforgettable evening as we celebrate the return of live rhythm featuring an award-winning songwriter, guitarist, and soulful storyteller, the legendary KJ Denhert.  The concert, held inside at the Nyack Center on supports the Museum’s 55th Anniversary and ignites the upcoming Jazz 2026 season at Edward Hopper House Museum.

Co-facilitated by visual artist Lisa Levart and writer/coach Linda Ellen Kelly, this workshop invites participants to awaken their inner voice through sacred imagery and the written word.

Drawing on Levart’s Goddess on Earth Oracle deck alongside Kelly’s Write From Your Heart method, participants explore intuition, story, and self-expression through oracle readings and gentle, guided writing prompts. 

The workshop creates a reflective, supportive space to uncover lived truths, deepen self-awareness, and reconnect with personal wisdom.

14th Annual Nyack International Film Festival
