Music Fest for East Ramapo Students

Friday, June 13, 7:00pm. Ramapo High School, 400 Viola Rd, Spring Valley

Performances by the talented students, faculty and members of the East Ramapo Community. Benefiting the Public School Students of East Ramapo, providing educational enrichment grants to teachers.

The East Ramapo Community Fund for Public Education iss a charitable component fund of the Rockland Community Foundation.

Rockland County Civic Survey exhibit, a collaboration between 27 students from Ramapo High School, AP teacher Donna Avino, Bill Batson, the Edward Hopper Museum and Study Center and The Rockland Community Foundation.

Dogs and Fashion on Broadway show in Nyack, bringing together local businesses, dog owners, and the community, pets walking the runway in matching outfits, alongside models showcasing participating stores.

5 Dogs will be available for adoption.

Juneteenth Observances

Freedom’s Legacy: Africatown and The Power of Storytelling

Wednesday, June 18, 7:00pm, Virtual

Join the African American Historical Society of Rockland County for a special Juneteenth event featuring renowned scholar Dr. Deborah Plant.

Dr. Plant will discuss her research into Zora Neale Hurston’s efforts to preserve the narratives of the past, particularly through documenting Cudjo Lewis’ story in Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo”.

Dr. Plant will also explore Africatown, the community founded by Cudjo Lewis and others who survived the transatlantic slave trade and built lives of resilience and self- determination. Their legacy continues to inspire and inform the work of generations today.

Juneteenth in Nyack

Thursday, June 19, 10:00 am – 4:00pm, Nyack Farmers Market and Memorial Park

Celebrate the moment when American truly became a land of the free with music from Nyack High School Jazz musicians Clutching Pearls, story time with Reid Wisely Books, Line Dancing with DJ Catch-22 and later in Memorial Park, the re-dedication of the Bench by the Road honoring Nyack’s Cynthia Hesdra and Toni Morrison. The rededication will include remarks by Dr. Lori Martin, a drum circle by For Vibration and light refreshments.
