Weekly Rec: Documentary Screening, Visit Nyack Commercial Contest, and Warming Center Info

Food and Country screening on Wednesday, Visit Nyack is looking for a few good commercials, and get out of the cold at the Rockland County Warming Center.

Wednesday, January 8, doors open at 7:30pm, 58 Depew Avenue

Trailblazing food writer Ruth Reichl reaches across political and social divides to report on the country’s broken food system and the innovators risking everything to transform it, in Food and Country.

“How we grow and make our food shows us our values – as a nation and as human beings.” 2023, USA, 100 minutes.

Community Partners are Nyack Farmers Market, Goshen Green Farms.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Susan Shapiro of Goshen Green Farm, Bill Batson of Nyack Farmers Market, and Joe Keinberg, who manages bee hives throughout the Hudson Valley.

Visit Nyack Commercial Contest

Help spread the word about our magical village – especially to folks in NYC and the tri-state area.

Winners who create up to a 5 minute commercial to attract guests and visitors to Nyack can win $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, $250 for third place.

Show the beauty, the quirks, the stories, secrets, and soul that make Nyack special. Be bold, be edgy, be different! The top 3 commercials will be used in YouTube Ads for Visit Nyack in 2025 and 2026.

Contest Rules:
Commercial must not exceed 5 minutes.
Please include the Visit Nyack logo.
Please use either original music or any music used must be registered for use at easysong.com. Please submit with proof of song registry.
All actors must sign release forms.
All entries must be submitted by May 15, 2025.

Rockland County Warming Center

Corner of South Broadway and Burd at 7:00pm. (7 days a week)

Anyone in need of shelter can come to the corner of South Broadway and Burd at 7:00pm., seven days a week, for a ride to the Warming Center. This public service includes a hot meal, a place to rest overnight and a hot shower as well as access to essential services.
