It is safe to assume that Edward Hopper, the iconic Nyack-bred artist and avid bicyclist, would have approved of the way his 142nd birthday weekend was celebrated by dozens of art-loving cyclists on Saturday, July 20 (his actual birthday is July 22).
They took a bike ride.

But not just any bike ride. As part of an annual tradition that started last year, riders trekked some 60 miles from the Whitney Museum in the Meatpacking District, where some 3,000 pieces of Hopper’s works are housed, to Hopper’s childhood home, now known as the Edward Hopper Museum and Study Center, near downtown Nyack.

Once they arrived, participants were treated to snacks and guided tours of the Hopper House by Nyack News & Views historian Mike Hays, who is also a board member of the museum.
