Every Memorial Day weekend, a group of volunteers replaces the small American flags next to the graves of veterans at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack. This year, the task was undertaken by VFW Post 9215 Upper Nyack, American Legion Post 310, Boy Scout Troop 2 and Boy Scout Pack 2. Our photographer and main memorializer Andrea Swenson was on hand to document this small but sacred duty on Saturday, May 25. (Fun fact: the worn flags that were replaced will be collectively burned during another ceremony, known as a Watchfire, on Thursday night.) Enjoy!
