Commemorate international Women’s Day with Bea Conner-Pohl’s unique film-based theatrical event Illuminate the Darkness on Fri and an Embracing Equity event on Saturday in Spring Valley.

Illuminate the Darkness, Women of Color, Voices for Change

Rivertown Film welcomes Illuminate the DarknessWomen of Color, a unique film-based theatrical event, to The Nyack Center on Friday, March 8.

Illuminate the Darkness is a theatrical project started when Bea Conner-Pohl interviewed women of different races and ethnicities illustrating their plights, their tragedies and their achievements. It shows how they address the cultural inequities that affected them through their own unique ways of humor, common sense, heart and empowerment. It is interspersed with compelling historical theatrical re-enactment, visual interviews and audience participation. This event has also been invited to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for August 2024 performances in Scotland. Tickets are on sale here!

Presented in collaboration with Phoenix Theatre Ensemble. Illuminate the Darkness, Women of Color, Voices of Change was partially funded with a grant from Humanities New York.

Tickets: $10 for members, $15 for non-members in advance – $20 at the door if seats are available, or $15 for members. Doors open at 7:30pm – Show begins at 8:00pm. Advance sale ticket buyers must be seated by 7:55 or your seats will be sold to a wait list. Please buy in advance and arrive no later than 7:55.

Rockland International Women’s Day Celebration

Rockland International Women’s Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, March 9 at the Church of St. Joseph, 245 North Main Street, Spring Valley from 10am – 2pm.

Expect engaging talks from influential women, interactive workshops, and thought-provoking panel discussions. There will be live performances, delicious food, and plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.If you have not registered yet, what are you waiting for?  Please do so and share the link with others.

ArtRock Presents The Cool Ms. Peggy Lee with Alice Leon 

Alice Leon and her all star band bring Peggy Lee’s music to the stage on Saturday March 16th at 7pm First Reformed Church of Nyack, 18 South Broadway, Nyack. Explore the life and music of this iconic singer-songwriter, who wrote and performed many of the most popular and enduring songs in her lifetime.  Alice Leon captures Lee’s subtlety, elegance and alluring tone and brings to life many of her best loved songs including  “Fever,” “Why Don’t You Do Right,” “I’m a Woman,” and “Is That All There Is?.”

Sigourney Weaver Headlines ArtRock Gala

ArtsRock welcomes Celebrity Guest Sigorney Weaver to their 2024 Gala on Saturday April 6th at 7pm at the First Reformed Church of Nyack, 18 South Broadway.

The Golden Globe and Grammy winning, Oscar and Tony nominated actress rose to fame starring as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s science fiction film Alien (1979). She reprised her role in James Cameron’s Aliens (1986), for which she received her first Academy Award nomination and again in Alien 3 (1992) and Alien Resurrection (1997). The character is regarded as a significant female protagonist in cinema history. She reunited with Cameron in Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), two of the highest-grossing films of all time. She also played Dana Barrett in the Ghostbusters films. In 1988, Weaver received Academy Award nominations as well as Golden Globe Awards for her roles in Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl. She won the Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album as narrator of the book Earth (The Book) in 2010.
