Canadian Wildfires Shroud Northeast in Smoke — What it Means for Rockland

Much of New York State, including Rockland County, is under a health advisory due to smoke in the air caused by wildfires in Canada. State officials are urging residents to avoid extended periods outdoors and to use air purifiers indoors.

The Air Quality Index for New City was last measured at 234, which is classified as “very unhealthy.

The conditions are expected to reach a peak Wednesday afternoon before 7 p.m. and subside by Thursday morning. Many local outdoor activities are cancelled for Wednesday.
