Weekly Recommendation: Salsa Night at Maura’s

Swing Combo Band plays Maura’s Kitchen once a month, including this Friday, April 22.

One of the best features of Nyack’s nightlife is inarguably its music scene, which remains unrivaled in the lower Hudson Valley.

On weekend nights, you can usually stumble around and find live tunes emanating. I’ve seen brilliant jazz and even opera performances at Maureen’s. I caught my friend Bongo’s new reggae band at Casa del Sol a couple of months ago. My brother was once in town on a random Tuesday a couple of years ago and I caught a killer soul blues band playing to an audience of about a dozen lucky patrons at Olive’s.

But now I’m hearing buzz about the Friday night salsa sessions at Maura’s Kitchen, which is why it is this week’s Weekly Rec.

Featuring the stylings of the Swing Combo Band, Maura’s salsa night kicks off around 9:30 pm once a month, including this Friday, April 22. People say it’s a fun, energetic vibe and the music is fantastic. Here’s a little preview:

As I write this, I can already see a future date night filled with mojitos and awkwardly funny dance moves that will probably do a disservice to the genre.
