Weekly Recommendation: Makers, Fries and Food Scraps in Palisades

Every Saturday for most of the year, the Palisades Community Center hosts one of the area’s best farmer’s markets. This week, on top of its normal offerings, the Palisades Farmer’s Market is featuring “local craft vendors” as part of its monthly Maker’s Market series.

This Saturday’s tasty, knife-sharpening vendor lineup includes Nyack’s favorite native food trucker, Bongo’s Fries (pictured), as well as local baked goods, jams, honeys, meat, candles, jewelry and more.

On top of all this smorgasbord, you can talk to politicians! Supervisor Teresa Kenny will be there from 10 am to noon to talk about Orangetown’s new food scrap recycling program, but if you’re a South Nyack resident, you could also ask her about her administration’s plans regarding your dissolving village’s debt load.

Reps for Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick will also hold mobile office hours there and would be happy to discuss a new roundabout planned for 9W. At the same time, you can grill them about the state’s spending priorities with budget talks heating up in Albany this month.

The Palisades Community Center is located in the hamlet of Palisades on the southern end of Tallman Park. The center offers “educational programming, charitable giving opportunities and community support for the Palisades community and the community-at-large.” We wholeheartedly approve of this mission. The center also publishes a cool quarterly newsletter. Check it out.

So, your Saturday morning is set. For more local events, check out Visit Nyack’s events page.
