The Villages: Village Boards Get Back to Business

This week in the villages: The winter holidays are over, and the villages of Nyack, Upper, and South Nyack are all holding board of trustee meetings. South Nyack is also holding a public hearing.  The Village of Nyack is looking for a new Village Administrator.  Second doses of  COVID-19 vaccines will be administered at Liberty, Valley Cottage, and Upper Nyack elementary schools. And there is a Nyack Public Library trustee election.

If you need information on where to find a COVID-19 testing site near you, visit coronavirus.health.ny.gov. Individuals who have questions regarding eligibility or access for testing should call the New York State COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-364-3065 or visit the NYSDOH website covid19screening.health.ny.gov.

A state operated COVID-19 testing site is open at the Patriot Hills Golf Club, 19 Club House Lane, Stony Point. Regular operating hours will be Mon – Sat from 8a – 6p and testing is BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Appointments may be made at appointments.bioreference.com.

Village of Nyack

The Nyack Business Council will hold a meeting via Zoom today (Mon, Jan 10, 2022) at 4p.

The Village Board of Trustees will hold a meeting on Thurs, Jan 13, 2022 at 7:30p via  Zoom.

Village Administrator Job Opening

Village of Nyack Administrator, Mr. James Slaughter, has stepped down and former Administrator, Jim Politi, will take over administration responsibilities for the Village in the interim. Those interested in the Village Administrator position will find more details and application information on nyack-ny.gov.

Village Hall Temporarily Closed to the Public

Village Hall is closed to the public until further notice due to staff shortages. The staff is working remotely when possible. The best form of contact is email and a staff directory may be found on nyack-ny.gov. Please note that parking regulations and fees remain in effect.

Nyack Library Trustees Election

  • Date: Today (Mon, Jan 10, 2022) from 11a-7p
  • Where: Vote in the Carnegie-Farian Room of the Nyack Library. Please use Carnegie Entrance in the front of the building to vote.
  • Who Can Vote: Residents of Nyack, Upper Nyack, South Nyack and Grandview; Upper Grandview (in the town of Orangetown), and Central Nyack (in the town of Clarkstown, as far as it is located in the Nyack Union Free School District).

Village of South Nyack

The Board of Trustees will hold a board meeting and public hearing on Tue, Jan 11, 2022 at 7:30p. A livestream of the meeting will be available on the Village of South Nyack Facebook page.

The Planning Board will meet on Wed, Jan 12, 2022 at 7:30p.

Public Hearing on South Nyack Village Hall Re-Zoning

A continuation of the public hearing held on Nov 23, 2021, will be held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of South Nyack at Village Hall, 282 S. Broadway, South Nyack, N.Y. on Tue, Jan 11, 2022, at 7:30p regarding a Local Law related to Amending the Zoning Map of Chapter 330 of the Zoning Law of the Village of South Nyack to Change the Zoning District of Certain Property in the Village of South Nyack – 282 South Broadway, South Nyack, New York, 10960 (Tax Map Designation Section 66.70, Block 1, Lot 21), more commonly known as the South Nyack Village Hall property, from the “RG-6” (Residential) zoning district to the “RG-OA” (Mixed Commercial) zoning district. The full text of the proposed law is on file in the Village Clerk’s office and may be reviewed by interested persons on southnyack.ny.gov and is posted on the outside bulletin boards at Village Hall located at 282 S Broadway, South Nyack. The Board of Trustees will hear at said time and place all persons in support of this local law and any objections thereto. Interested parties may appear in person or by agent or representative.

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a workshop on Thurs, Jan 13, 2022 at 7p via Zoom.

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a public hearing on Thurs, Jan 20, 2022, at 7:30p, or as soon as practical thereafter, as a hybrid meeting at the Old Stone Meeting Huse, 347 N Broadway, to take such action as may come before said Board:

Yeshivath Viznitz Dkhal Torath Chaim Inc. – Application for Temporary Moratorium Variance, 350 North Highland Avenue, Village of Upper Nyack (SBL 59.16-2-3 (Upper Nyack)) Application for a variance from the temporary moratorium on land use applications, including special use permit applications, for the subject property, which is located on Route 9W in the OB (Office Business) Zoning District (see Local Laws 1 of 2020 and 3 of 2020 as extended), to allow the applicant to pursue the necessary land use approvals to use the subject property as a school.

Village of Upper Nyack Proposed Stormwater Management Law

A copy of the proposed local law establishing and continuing Village regulation of Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control which may be cited as the Village Stormwater Management Law may be found on uppernyack-ny.us.

Village of Upper Nyack Election Offices to Be Filled

Two two-year trustee offices are vacant at the end of the current official year and are to be filled at the Village election to be held on Tue, Mar 15, 2022.

Nyack Public Schools

Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Nyack Public Schools, in partnership with TruCare Pharmacy, is hosting a series of  on-site COVID-19 vaccination clinics for students. These vaccine clinics will take place on the following dates and locations from 12-4p:

Liberty Elementary School Gymnasium
2nd Dose: Mon, Jan 10, 2022

Upper Nyack Elementary School Gymnasium
2nd Dose: Tue, Jan 11, 2022

Valley Cottage Elementary School Gymnasium
2nd Dose: Wed, Jan 12, 2022

These vaccines will be provided at no charge to families and available to students ages 5-11 years old. The child’s parent /guardian MUST accompany the child when the vaccine is administered. Parental consent forms are available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. Town of Orangetown

Christmas Tree Pickup

The Orangetown Highway Department is currently picking up Christmas trees from the town right-of-way. Residents are advised to place their Christmas trees out on the right-of-way, not on the paved road surface, as soon as possible. The pickup of Christmas trees will be completed on Fri, Jan 28, 2022. Rockland County

Reviving Rockland Restaurants Grant Program

The Reviving Rockland Restaurants Grant Program will reimburse businesses between $5,000 and $25,000 for past expenses or fund future expenses for eligible outdoor dining COVID-19 mitigation equipment. Eligible entities include restaurants, food stands, food trucks, bars, saloons, lounges, taverns, bakeries, delis, cafes, breweries, wineries, and other similar places of business.

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to:

  • Tents
  • Heat Lamps or other electric heating equipment
  • Additional tables and chairs for outdoor dining
  • Market Umbrellas
  • Plexiglass Shields
  • Tarps
  • Patio Fencing

New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund

Homeowners who are affected financially by the Covid-19 pandemic may qualify for up to $50,000 in aid. The Homeowner Assistance Fund is open through Feb 4, 2022. The New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund (NYS HAF) is a federally funded program dedicated to assisting homeowners who are at risk of default, foreclosure or displacement as a result of financial hardship caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics for the 2021-2022 flu season on various dates and locations. This clinic is for everyone 6 months and older.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. There is a $20 fee for those 6 months through 64 years old: cash or check accepted. For those with private health insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. To make the process quicker, please print and bring the completed 2021-2022 FLU VACCINE FORM with you.

The vaccine is free of charge if you:

  • are 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age)
  • have Medicare or Medicaid (please bring your card)
  • are uninsured or underinsured
