The Villages: Upper Nyack Public Hearing

This week in the villages: The Village of Upper Nyack will hold a public hearing to consider the adoption of a proposed local law and the Village of Nyack will hold a Village Board Meeting and Workshop.  The Town of Orangetown is holding its second public workshop for its Comprehensive Plan update. If you haven’t joined Rockland Community Power’s Clean Energy Program there is another virtual information sessions open to all new, prospective, and current customers. And there are multiple opportunities to donate toys or other needed items to your neighbors in need this holiday season.

Village of Nyack

Nyack Business Council will hold a meeting via Zoom today (Mon, Dec 6, 2021) at 4p.

Today (Mon, Dec 6, 2021) the Planning Board will meet to consider various site plan applications, an application for tree removal, and an administrative application for an extension on land use approval. Read the full agenda at Nyack-NY.gov before Zooming into the meeting at 7p.

‘The Village Board of Trustees will hold a workshop on Thurs, Dec 9, 2021 at 6:30p via  Zoom followed by a Village Board meeting at 7:30p via Zoom.

Financial Assistance with Water Bills

Financial Assistance is available to help pay water bills for qualified individuals. The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) can help. LIHWAP is a drinking water and wastewater emergency assistance program funded through new federal resources. Benefits are based on the amount of unpaid water and wastewater bills owed by applicants. This assistance is targeted at low income households and income guidelines will mirror that of the Home Energy Assistance Program. LIHWAP benefits are based on the actual amount of drinking water and/or wastewater arrears, up to a maximum of $2,500 per drinking water or wastewater provider, or $5,000 if drinking water and wastewater services are combined, per household. Benefits are paid directly to the household’s drinking water and/or wastewater vendor(s). Additional information may be found on otda.ny.gov.

Leaf Collection

Residents must keep leaves out of roadways to comply
with town codes and state traffic laws.

Loose leaf piles should be placed on homeowner’s property and not on sidewalks or in the roadway. DPW will be picking up leaves now through Dec 10, 2021. Leaves may be placed in biodegradable paper bags or left loose in a pile on homeowner’s property. Consider mulching leaves as a sustainable approach to landscaping.

Other residential yard waste may be dropped off at the Clarkstown Yard Waste Facility, 166 S Rt 303. This facility is open to all.

Nyack Homeless Project

The Nyack Homeless Project food and clothing drive has gone virtual and needs your help to buy food and winter clothing for those in need. Visit their Virtual Drive page and donate what you can.

Notice of Public Hearing

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a public hearing on December 9, 2021, at 7:15p, or as soon as practical thereafter, to consider the adoption of proposed Local Law # 11 of 2021, A Local Law repealing and replacing the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Upper Nyack, adopted January 18, 1962, last amended on April 13, 2021, by Local Law No. 3 of 2021, commonly known as the 1962 Zoning Ordinance of the Village of Upper Nyack.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Village Board of Trustees will not be meeting in person. In accordance with Chapter 417 of the Laws of 2021 signed by the New York State Governor Kathy Hochul suspending certain provisions of the New York State Open Meetings Law, the meeting will be held via videoconferencing, and a transcript will be provided at a later date. The public will have the opportunity to see and hear the meeting live and provide comments.

The text of the proposed Local Law is available on uppernyack-ny.us/zoning-code-update. Comments and questions can also be provided via email before the meeting to Heather Candella, Village Clerk at village.clerk@uppernyack-ny.us. Notice of Continued Public Hearing

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack adjourned the public hearing to consider an Application for a Temporary Moratorium Variance, 350 North Highland Avenue, Village of Upper Nyack (SBL 59.16-2-3 (Upper Nyack)) until December 16, 2021. Application for a variance from the temporary moratorium on land use applications, including special use permit applications, for the subject property, which is located on Route 9W in the OB (Office Business) Zoning District (see Local Laws 1 of 2020 and 3 of 2020 as extended),  to allow the applicant to pursue the necessary land use approvals to use the subject property as a school.

Town of Orangetown Comprehensive Plan Workshop #2

The Town of Orangetown Comprehensive Plan Committee (CPC) is holding its second Public Workshop tonight (Mon, Dec 6, 2021) at 7p in the new courtroom next to the police station at 26 W Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg. The doors open at 6:45p.  Please wear a mask if unvaccinated or if not fully vaccinated. Orangeburg Fire Department’s 11th Annual Holiday Parade

The Orangeburg Fire Department will hold its 11th Annual Holiday Parade on Sat, Dec 11, 2021 starting at 6p. A copy of the route may be found at orangeburgfd.org.

Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department and Carolyn’s Elves Holiday Toy Drive

Toys may be dropped off at the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, 61 Dutch Hill Rd, Orangeburg on Sat, Dec 11, 2021 from 12p until the parade starts and on Sat, Dec 18 from 10a-2p.  Toys collected will be distributed to the South Orangetown Central School District’s Family Resource Center, the Nyack Valley Cottage School District’s Family Resource Center and the Center for Safety & Change.  Please call (845) 721-4267 with any questions.

33rd Annual PBA Toy Drive

New unwrapped toys for children may be dropped off at Orangetown Police Department, 26 Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg to benefit Tomorrow’s Children’s Hospital, Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Valley Hospital Pediatric Center, 508th Military Police, U.S. Military families and many others. Toys may be dropped off through Dec 16, 2021.

Town of Clarkstown

People to People Comfort and Joy

In partnership with People to People, the Town of Clarkstown is collecting new, warm twin size blankets or throws for children from low-income families. You may drop off blankets at the Town of Clarkstown Town Hall, 2nd floor lobby, 10 Maple Ave, New City. The deadline for blanket donations is Dec 5, 2021. People to People and the Town are also collecting $35 gift cards to give children for the holidays. Donations may be made at peopletopeopleinc.ejoinme.org/clarkstowncomfortjoy.

Rockland County

Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics for the 2021-2022 flu season on various dates and locations. This clinic is for everyone 6 months and older.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. There is a $20 fee for those 6 months through 64 years old: cash or check accepted. For those with private health insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. To make the process quicker, please print and bring the completed 2021-2022 FLU VACCINE FORM with you.

The vaccine is free of charge if you:

  • are 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age)
  • have Medicare or Medicaid (please bring your card)
  • are uninsured or underinsured
