This week in the villages: It’s a quiet end to another challenging year with closures and transportation changes on New year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The only scheduled meeting is a Village of South Nyack Board of Trustees meeting.

New Year’s Holiday Transportation Schedules

On New Year’s Day, Sat, Jan 1, Transport of Rockland (TOR) buses 59, 91, 92, 93, and Loop 3 will operate on a Sunday schedule; there will be no service on buses 94, 95, and 97; and Loop 1 and Loop 2. TRIPS paratransit buses will operate A.D.A. service only.

Nyack Homeless Project

The Nyack Homeless Project food and clothing drive has gone virtual and needs your help to buy food and winter clothing for those in need. Visit their Virtual Drive page and donate what you can.

Village of South Nyack

The Board of Trustees will hold a board meeting on Tue, Dec 28, 2021 at 7:30p. A livestream of the meeting will be available on the Village of South Nyack Facebook page.

Village of Upper Nyack Election Offices to Be Filled

Two two-year trustee offices are vacant at the end of the current official year and are to be filled at the Village election to be held on Tue, Mar 15, 2022.

Town of Orangetown

Town of Orangetown is Designated a Clean Energy Community

The Town of Orangetown has been designated a Clean Energy Community by the New York State
Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), recognizing its leadership in reducing energy
use, cutting costs and driving clean energy development locally. The town received the designation for completing four high-impact clean energy actions:

  • Streamlined the local approval processes for solar projects through adoption of the New York State Unified Solar Permit,
  • completed energy code enforcement training on best practices in energy code enforcement for the municipal code enforcement officer,
  • installed electric vehicle charging stations in the community,
  • and, converted cobra head-style streetlights to energy efficient LED technology.

Communities that complete at least four NYSERDA-identified high-impact actions are designated Clean Energy Communities and are eligible for a Designation Grant of $5,000. This grant is just one of the many exciting grant opportunities offered through the Clean Energy Communities Leadership Round.

Orangetown Recreation Regal Movie Theater Discount Ticket Program

Just a reminder that Orangetown Recreation has a discount ticket program for Regal Movie Theaters including Regal Cinemas, United Artists Theatres, and Edwards Theatres. The cost of a premier ticket is $9.25 and is valid for all films and showtimes. The tickets never expire. The accepted forms of payment are cash or check and tickets may be purchased Mon to Fri from 9:30a to 4:30p. There is a limit of 20 tickets per family per visit. Town of Clarkstown

Save the Date – Blood Drive

The Town of Clarkstown will hold a blood drive on Fri, Jan 7, 2022 from 10a-5p at the Town of Clarkstown Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave, Room 301, New City. You may register at donate.nybc.org.

Rockland County

FEMA Assistance for Hurricane Ida

Just a reminder that residents of the Rockland County who were affected by Hurricane Ida have until Tue, Jan 4, 2022 to apply to FEMA for disaster assistance. A list of frequently asked questions about FEMA disaster assistance may be found at HurricaneIdaFEMAAssistance.

Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics for the 2021-2022 flu season on various dates and locations. This clinic is for everyone 6 months and older.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. There is a $20 fee for those 6 months through 64 years old: cash or check accepted. For those with private health insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. To make the process quicker, please print and bring the completed 2021-2022 FLU VACCINE FORM with you.

The vaccine is free of charge if you:

  • are 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age)
  • have Medicare or Medicaid (please bring your card)
  • are uninsured or underinsured

The Health Department is giving the quadrivalent flu vaccine, which does not contain preservatives, including thimerosal. For more information about the flu and the flu vaccine clinics visit rocklandgov.com or call 845-364-2534.
