The Villages: A Brighter Nyack

This week in the villages: The Village of Nyack will now look a bit brighter with the installation of 489 clean LED lights.  The Villages of South and Upper Nyack are holding board of trustee meetings with Upper Nyack also holding a public hearing. The Nyack Public Schools are holding a series of vaccine clinics for students ages 5-11 beginning this week. And the Town of Clarkstown is providing holiday meals for veterans and active military members.

Village of Nyack

The Architectural Review Board will meet on Wed, Dec 15, 2021 to consider requests for window replacement and deck repair, to demolish existing buildings and fuel pump canopy and relocate on site, for signage, and for exterior alterations. Village of Nyack LED Street Light Conversion

Crews from All Bright Electric are finishing up the LED street light conversion project for the Village of Nyack which now has 489 clean LED lights. The Village now owns all the street lights and outages should be reported directly to the DPW, not Orange & Rockland Utilities. Should you notice an outage please contact the Nyack DPW at 845-358-3552 or preferably send an email with the location and details to dpw@nyack-ny.gov.

Nyack Homeless Project

The Nyack Homeless Project food and clothing drive has gone virtual and needs your help to buy food and winter clothing for those in need. Visit their Virtual Drive page and donate what you can.

Village of South Nyack

The Board of Trustees will hold the annual organizational meeting and board meeting on Tue, Dec 14, 2021 at 7:30p. A livestream of the meeting will be available on the Village of South Nyack Facebook page.

Curbside Leaf Pickup

The last day for curbside leaf pickup is Wed, Dec 15, 2021. All leaves must be placed curbside no later than Tue, Dec 14.

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a regular meeting and public hearing on Thurs, Dec 16, 2021 at 7p via Zoom.

Notice of Public Hearing

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a public hearing on Thurs, Dec 16, 2021 at 7:30p to consider an Application for Temporary Moratorium Variance, 536 North Highland Avenue, Village of Upper Nyack (SBL 59.12-2-1 & 59.12-1-16 (Upper Nyack)) Application for a variance from the temporary moratorium on commercial or residential land use applications for property located in the office business (OB) district, laboratory office (LO) district and the R-4 residential district that abuts the 9W corridor. (See Local Laws 1 of 2020 and 8 of 2021 as extended), to allow the applicant to pursue land use approvals necessary to convert an existing restaurant to office space. The Property is in the LO Zoning District.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Village Board of Trustees will not be meeting in person. In accordance with Chapter 417 of the Laws of 2021 signed by the New York State Governor Kathy Hochul suspending certain provisions of the New York State Open Meetings Law, the meeting will be held via videoconferencing, and a transcript will be provided at a later date. The public will have the opportunity to see and hear the meeting live and provide comments.

A meeting agenda, plans, application materials, and other information will be posted on uppernyack-ny.us in advance of the meeting. Copies of the applications are available for public inspection in Village Hall during regular business hours, 9a-12p.

Public Notice of Village of Upper Nyack Election Offices to Be Filled

Two two-year trustee offices are vacant at the end of the current official year and are to be filled at the Village election to be held on Tue, Mar 15, 2022.

Nyack Public Schools

Upcoming COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Nyack Public Schools, in partnership with TruCare Pharmacy, is hosting a series of  on-site COVID-19 vaccination clinics for students. These vaccine clinics will take place on the following dates and locations from 12-4p:

Nyack Middle School Gymnasium (for eligible 11 year olds)
1st Dose: Fri, Dec 17, 2021 / 2nd Dose: Fri Jan 7, 2022

Liberty Elementary School Gymnasium
1st Dose: Mon, Dec 20, 2021 / 2nd Dose: Mon, Jan 10, 2022

Upper Nyack Elementary School Gymnasium
1st Dose: Tue, Dec 21, 2021 / 2nd Dose: Tue, Jan 11, 2022

Valley Cottage Elementary School Gymnasium
1st Dose: Wed, Dec 22, 2021 / 2nd Dose: Wed, Jan 12, 2022

These vaccines will be provided at no charge to families and available to students ages 5-11 years old. The child’s parent /guardian MUST accompany the child when the vaccine is administered. Parental consent forms are available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. Town of Orangetown

Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department and Carolyn’s Elves Holiday Toy Drive

Toys may be dropped off at the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department, 61 Dutch Hill Rd, Orangeburg on Sat, Dec 18 from 10a-2p.  Toys collected will be distributed to the South Orangetown Central School District’s Family Resource Center, the Nyack Valley Cottage School District’s Family Resource Center and the Center for Safety & Change.  Please call (845) 721-4267 with any questions.

33rd Annual PBA Toy Drive

New unwrapped toys for children may be dropped off at Orangetown Police Department, 26 Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg to benefit Tomorrow’s Children’s Hospital, Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Valley Hospital Pediatric Center, 508th Military Police, U.S. Military families and many others. Toys may be dropped off through Dec 16, 2021.

Veterans Holiday Dinner Bags

All veterans and active duty military members are welcome to receive a Holiday Dinner Bag from the Town of Clarkstown on Sat, Dec 18, 2021 from 9-11a at the Street Community Center, 31 Zukor Rd, New City. Please RSVP at supervisor@clarkstown.org or at 845-639-2050. Please bring a Veterans ID card. Bags will include turkey, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert.

People to People Comfort and Joy

The Clarsktown Lions Club is holding a food drive on Sun, Dec 19, 2021 from 10a-2p at DeCicco’s Family Market, 180 S Main St, New City.

Rockland County

5th Annual Department of Social Services (DSS) Toy and Clothing Drive

The DSS announced that the county will be accepting new, unwrapped toys, gifts, and clothing during its 5th Annual Toy and Clothing Drive. The drive takes place each year to ensure that every child in Rockland County has a gift to open for the holidays. Toys and gifts are requested for children 18 or younger. The drive will run through Sat, Dec 18, 2021.

You can drop off toys, gift cards, or clothing on Sat, Dec 11, 2021 from 10a to 2p at the DSS Office, 50 Sanatorium Rd, Bldg C, Pomona. Someone will come to your car and take the items for your convenience. A list of drop off locations may be found at www.rocklandgov.com.

Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics for the 2021-2022 flu season on various dates and locations. This clinic is for everyone 6 months and older.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. There is a $20 fee for those 6 months through 64 years old: cash or check accepted. For those with private health insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. To make the process quicker, please print and bring the completed 2021-2022 FLU VACCINE FORM with you.

The vaccine is free of charge if you:

  • are 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age)
  • have Medicare or Medicaid (please bring your card)
  • are uninsured or underinsured

The Health Department is giving the quadrivalent flu vaccine, which does not contain preservatives, including thimerosal. For more information about the flu and the flu vaccine clinics visit rocklandgov.com or call 845-364-2534.
