My name is Denise Hogan, and I’m staging an October Surprise write in campaign for Mayor of Nyack.
I decided to do this because of the disconnect between the people in our village and our elected officials.
I’m a walker and speak with many people in the village. Most know there is an election on Tuesday. Many did not know that Nyacks’ Mayor and 2 Trustees are running for re-election. That’s a real problem.
The mayor and trustees are unopposed. Is that why there is no information being mailed to tell us about what they have accomplished and what they will be working on in the future? (In fairness I did see about 10 signs with their names and the candidate running for Orangetown council.)
Are the people of Nyack completely satisfied with our candidates or have they lost interest? I for one haven’t lost interest and continue to care about our village.
Our village needs resident involvement so that our voices can be heard. We need people to step up and run for office.
This is my home. I have no agenda. I’m invested in this village and want to see it grow.
We can do better.
