The Villages: Village of Nyack Public Hearings

This week in the villages: The Boards of Trustees will meet in South Nyack and the Village of Nyack. The Board of Trustees of Nyack will hold two public hearings. The Broadway Streetscape project road work continues, along with the Nyack Water Department water main flushing. The Town of Orangetown is holding a blood drive. And don’t forget, you can cast your vote early at any one of four early voting centers until Sun, Oct 31 at 2p.

Village of Nyack

The Nyack Business Council will hold a meeting via Zoom today (Mon, Oct 18, 2021) at 4p.

The Zoning Board will meet today (Mon, Oct 25, 2021) to consider applications for variances for a freestanding sign in front yard and for setback requirements. Read the full agenda at nyack-ny.gov before Zooming into the meeting at 7p.

The Village Board of Trustees will hold a workshop on Thurs, Oct 28, 2021 at 7p via Zoom followed by a Village Board meeting at 7:30p via Zoom.

Notice of Public Hearings

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Nyack will hold a public hearing on Thurs, Oct 28, 2021 at 8p to consider adopting a local law to amend the Zoning Map of the Village of Nyack, as referred to in Section 360-2.2  of the Code of the Village of Nyack to rezone and reclassify a parcel on Catherine St (also known as 60 Catherine St) and indicated on the tax map of the Village of  Nyack as Section 65.36, Block 2, Lot 30 from DMU-2 (Downtown Mixed Use-2) to TFR (Two Family Residential). A full copy of the text of proposed amendment of the Nyack Village Code may be reviewed at the office of the Clerk of the Village of Nyack, 9 N Broadway, Nyack, during regular business hours. All persons interested shall have an opportunity to be heard at the Public Hearing at the time and place aforesaid. You may appear in person or by agent.

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Nyack will also hold a public hearing on Thurs, Oct 28, 2021 at 8:30p to consider a new Chapter 150 of the Village Code, entitled “Cannabis”, initially for the purpose of requesting that the N.Y.S. Cannabis Control Board prohibit the establishment of retail dispensary licenses and/or on-site consumption licenses as referenced in the New York State Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act. A full copy of the text of proposed amendment of the Nyack Village Code may be reviewed at the office of the Clerk of the Village of Nyack, 9 N Broadway, Nyack, during regular business hours. All persons interested shall have an opportunity to be heard at the Public Hearing at the time and place aforesaid.  Persons may appear in person or by agent.

The village will be activating a remote meeting platform for the Thurs, Oct 28, 2021 Village Board meeting and public hearings pursuant to NYS legislation (S.50001/A.40001), which will enable residents to watch a livestream of the meeting and comment on the Zoom platform in compliance with the legislation.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE  that the Village Board of the Village of Nyack Board of Trustees is Lead Agency for the purpose of review of the proposed actions under the provisions of Article 8 of the Environmental Conservation Law.  The address of the Nyack Village Board is 9 N Broadway, Nyack, NY.   The proposed local law of is a “Type I” action under the Environmental Conservation Law.  The Nyack Village Clerk may provide additional information on the action, and may be reached by telephone at 845-358-0548.

Broadway Streetscape Project Update

Sidewalk demo and prep work continues this week on N Broadway between High Ave and First Ave. The crosswalk on N Broadway between Fourth Ave and Fifth Ave is under review and work is expected to resume this week. The contractor expects to finish the current work zones this fall. The project is expected take approximately a year to complete. The schedule will be updated with progress reports given each week while the construction is active. Expect a full shut down for winter months.

Here’s what to expect during sidewalk work:

  • Contractor will work on one side of the street at a time
  • Work will be limited to one block at a time
  • Parking will be restricted only in the work zone
  • Handicap spots will be relocated while work is underway
  • Work is expected to last approximately one week per block
  • Residents and businesses will be notified as the project moves closer to their location
  • Building access will be maintained, however, when the concrete is poured there will be time where access is restricted
  • Everyone will have advance notice of concrete pours that will affect access to their building
  • In the business districts, we will attempt to pour when the stores are closed (Mondays, etc.) if possible

If your building has a vault (cellar) underneath the sidewalk – please notify the Village Administrator, Mr. James Slaughter, as soon as possible at 845-358-3581 or administrator@nyack-ny.gov. Any questions on the project may be directed to Mr. Slaughter.

Water Main Flushing

The village of Nyack Water Department will continue water main flushing this week in Nyack and the remainder of South Nyack from today (Mon, Oct 25) through Thurs, Oct 28, 2021.

Flushing will take place between the hours of 9p and 6a. As a result of the flushing, your water may be temporarily discolored and you might experience a temporary reduction in water pressure. Village of South Nyack

Halloween Street Closures

The Village of Upper Nyack is working with the Clarkstown Police Auxiliary to close some streets for Halloween Trick or Treating. On Sun, Oct 31, 2021 from 4-8p, Castle Heights Ave will be closed from N Broadway to N Midland Ave and N Broadway will be closed from Highmount Ave to Castle Heights Ave.

Town of Orangetown

Town of Orangetown Comprehensive Plan Update

The Town is embarking on a process of updating its Comprehensive Plan for the first time since 2003 to establish a guiding framework for future sustainable development, economic growth, and natural resource preservation in the Town. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-term planning document that establishes a community’s goals and aspirations for the future, while providing a roadmap for how to achieve them. Through input from local residents, workers, and business owners, the Comprehensive Plan Update will reflect the goals and recommendations of the Orangetown community, and will serve as a guiding framework for the Town’s growth and development in the coming years.

The online Comprehensive Plan survey which offers community members an opportunity to provide their input and thoughts on existing and future conditions within the Town is available until Oct 29, 2021, and all are encouraged to participate.

Blood Drive

The Town of Orangetown will be holding their biannual blood drive on Thurs, Oct 28, 2021 from 9a-8p at The Town of Orangetown Town Hall, 26 Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg. Please consider rolling up your sleeves and giving a pint to help those in need. For every pint donated, up to three lives are saved. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome if capacity allows. You can schedule your appointment at donate.nybc.org.

2021 General Election Early Voting 

The 2021 General Election is Tue, Nov 2. This year, you may vote early now through Sun, Oct 31 at any of the 4 early voting centers in Rockland.
Flu Vaccine Clinic

The Rockland County Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics for the 2021-2022 flu season on various dates and locations. This clinic is for everyone 6 months and older.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. There is a $20 fee for those 6 months through 64 years old: cash or check accepted. For those with private health insurance, we will provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. To make the process quicker, please print and bring the completed 2021-2022 FLU VACCINE FORM with you.

The vaccine is free of charge if you:

  • are 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age)
  • have Medicare or Medicaid (please bring your card)
  • are uninsured or underinsured
