This week in the villages: It’s Labor Day, a federal holiday to honor the American labor movement and the contributions of laborers. Government offices, banks, and post offices will be closed. Today, HudsonLink buses will run on a weekend schedule–and there are other transportation schedule changes due to the holiday. And on Saturday, we pay tribute to those lost in the Sept 11 terror attacks 20 years ago. Also, there will be a Village of Nyack Board of Trustees of workshop and meeting.

Labor Day Transit Schedule Changes
On Mon, Sept 6, 2021 HudsonLink buses will operate on a weekend schedule; Transport of Rockland (TOR) buses 59, 91, 92, 93, 94, and Loop 3 will operate on a Saturday schedule; Loop 1 and Loop 2 will operate on a weekday schedule; there will be no service on TOR 95 and 97; and Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Village Board of Trustees will hold a workshop via Zoom on Thurs, Sept 9, 2021 at 7p. Then, Zoom into the Village Board meeting at 7:30p.

Hometown Heroes Remembrance
On Sat, Sept 11, 2021 at at 6:30p in Memorial Park there will be an observance to remember those who lost their lives in the terror attacks of Sept 11, 2001 and to 9-11 related illness.
Milling and Paving Rescheduled for This Week

Free Haircuts for Boys in K-8
For Our Kids NY, Inc. presents Jake Of Fades a Back to School initiative encouraging boys to read while waiting at the barbershop for that fresh cut. Fun, kid-approved books will be distributed to each barbershop to keep in house to encourage the boys they serve to read while they wait. In Nyack haircuts will be given at Yogi’s Plus, 298 Rt. 59 today (Sept 6, 2021) at 3p.
Boys should arrive ready to enjoy their day. All participants will be asked to check in at the registration table. They will be escorted to the game truck or other activities while they wait for their turn in the barber’s chair. The truck will be limited due to proper spacing because of COVID. When inside the shop each young man will select a book to read while he is getting his haircut. In addition all participants will be given reading materials to take home to start off their own personal libraries.
Temporary Bus Layover Downtown
Due to the construction of the supermarket at the Riverspace building on Main St, there will be a temporary layover for the displaced busses on Cedar St, the west side of the street adjacent to Veterans Park. This will be in effect until Oct 18, 2021.
Nyack Library Community Survey
The Nyack Library is developing a new long range plan and needs your help to gather data about the library’s role, collections and services as they plan for the future. Please consider taking a 15-20 minute survey about how you use and view the Nyack Library. Your participation is anonymous, although you will have a chance to share your contact information if you would like. The deadline to take the survey has been extended until Sept 6, 2021.

9/11 Memorial Ceremony
The Town of Orangetown will hold a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Sat, Sept, 11, 2021 at 5:30p on the lawn at Town Hall, in front of the Memorial.
Tappan 9/11 Memorial Dedication
There will be a dedication of the new 9/11 Memorial at Tappan Green, 16 Old Tappan Rd, on Sat, Sept 11, 2021 at 8:30a.
Town of Orangetown Feline Spay/Neuter Voucher Program
The Town of Orangetown is partnering with the Hudson Valley Humane Society (HVHS) to provide discounted spay/neuter vouchers for companion felines as well as community cats for all Orangetown residents. For $30, the voucher includes: one feline spay/neuter surgery, a rabies vaccine valid for one-year, a nail trim, a dose of antibiotic, ear cleaning, and an abdominal tattoo.
The Hudson Valley Humane Society has joined with The Animal Rights Alliance, Inc. (T.A.R.A.) to provide the feline spay/neuter service. On the first Thursday of each month, the HVHS hosts the hospital at its headquarters at 200 Quaker Road, Pomona. Orangetown residents can purchase a voucher by credit card at orangetown.com or visit the Town Clerk’s office to pay by cash or check. 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
On Sat, Sept, 11, 2021 at 5p, the Town of Clarkstown will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave, New City to reflect 20 years later.
Rockland County
Rockland County September 11th Memorial Ceremony
The Rockland County September 11th Memorial Ceremony will take place on Sat, Sept 11, 2021 at 8:30a at Haverstraw Bay County Park, 21 Gagan Rd, Haverstraw. County officials will join family members, clergy, first responders and others to mark the 20th anniversary of terrorist attacks. Those planning to attend the event should arrive by 8:15a.
As part of the commemoration, family members will read the names of the Rockland County victims. There will be a tolling of the bell followed by a moment of silent prayer at 8:46a in remembrance of the attack on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and again at 9:03a in memory of the attack on the South Tower. Four more bells will toll in remembrance of the attack on the Pentagon, the collapse of the South Tower, the crash of flight 93 into Shanksville, PA, and the collapse of the North Tower.
For those unable to attend the event in person, it will be live streamed on the Rockland County Government Facebook page and will be posted for viewing to the Rockland County Government YouTube page upon completion.
