The Villages: Snowed In

This week in the villages: A major storm is expected to dump a significant amount of snow in the villages. Please stay off the roads and follow snow emergency parking rules so village DPW crews can clear the streets for everyone. South Nyack is holding interviews for dissolution consultants and it’s seeking bidders for garbage and trash collection. The Towns of Clarkstown and Orangetown are holding meetings on police reform. Despite the number of COVID-19 cases in Nyack increasing slightly, following a general decline in new case and hospitalization rates over the past weeks, most yellow zone restrictions, including those in Rockland County, have been lifted statewide.

A snow emergency is in effect. Trash collection for today (Mon, Feb 1, 2021) has been cancelled. Regular trash collection will resume on Thurs, Feb 4. Updates will be posted on nyack-ny.gov as the storm develops. Please do not leave trash on the curb as it may interfere with plow work.

Orange & Rockland (O&R) has ramped up its emergency response team to repair damage and restore electric service outages that could result from a winter nor’easter, packing gusty winds and heavy snow, that is expected to sweep through the region through Tuesday. If you experience a power outage, don’t assume that O&R automatically knows about it. You can report it and check to see when your power will come back on through:

  • oru.com/ReportOutage from any computer or web-based mobile device.
  • O&R mobile app from your iPhone, iPad or Android device
  • Text message “OUT” to 69678 (myORU) or
  • Call 1-877-434-4100.

Nyack Community Solar Informational Meeting – Save the Date

If you haven’t already signed up for the Rockland Community Power 100% renewable energy program and would like to learn more about the program, there will be an online information session to discuss the program and answer your questions on Tue, Feb 16, 2021 from 6:30-7:30p.

For every enrollment in this community solar program, $50 will be donated to a Nyack Sustainability Fund, which will help Nyack raise funds for a future sustainability project. Each $50 donation is made by Joule Community Power which administers Rockland Community Power on behalf of the partnering municipalities.

Enrolling in community solar is a way to take action from home, to reduce your electricity bill, and to help support our community and our environment. Since each solar farm can generate only so much power, residents are encouraged to enroll soon before the solar farms become fully subscribed. Please RSVP for virtual meeting details.

Rockland County

Yellow Zone Restrictions Lifted

Last week Governor Cuomo lifted the yellow zone restrictions in Rockland County and other areas across the state. Even though the yellow zone restrictions have been lifted, Rockland is still subject to statewide COVID-19 regulations and residents are urged to follow the state’s guidelines.

Local Vendors for Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Bike/Walking Path Needed

The New York State Thruway Authority is seeking local vendors interested in selling food, beverages, and other services at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge’s bike/walking path. The Thruway Authority is inviting qualified local vendors to provide high quality, unique, and diverse menu items, including non-alcoholic beverages, over the course of 2 years at the path’s Westchester and Rockland landings, and bicycle rentals at the Westchester landing. Each vending season will run from the beginning of spring through October. Beginning this year, vendors will also have the option of providing refreshments at the Painters Point overlook, which is located at the mid-point of the path. Services at the landings must be provided at least 5 days a week, including weekends, and during daylight hours. In addition to a proposal, those interested must provide detailed information about their business, experience, and at least 2 references. Preference will be given to local vendors and Taste NY Farm Market participants.

The Westchester landing, located off South Broadway in Tarrytown, features 2 truck stalls for food trucks, trailers, or mobile bike rental/repair stations. Each stall has access to electric outlets. Additionally, its plaza has space for a pop-up tent. The Rockland landing, located within Interchange 10 of the New York State Thruway in South Nyack, features a truck stall with access to electricity. The landing also includes space for one pop-up tent adjacent to the path. The Painters Point overlook has access to electricity and room for a portable chiller.

A vendor solicitation form and more information may be found on mariomcuomobridge.ny.gov. Proposals are due by Feb 12, 2021.
