This Year, Commit to Supporting Local Journalism

by Nyack News & Views Staff

Nyack News & Views has covered news, arts, and culture in and near the Nyacks for a dozen years. In 2020, and in particular throughout the COVID-19 crisis, we doubled down on content, bringing readers valuable service-oriented journalism.

We reported on the adversity EMTs have faced, the burden the pandemic’s put on the local restaurant industry, how COVID has impacted waste and biodiversity, and inspiring efforts to unite during this difficult time. All the while we kept you up to date on local elections, South Nyack’s big decision on dissolution, and small business closings, while continuing to delve deep into Nyack’s history, the local environment, and the people and places that make the community such a beloved place.

In addition to continuing our informative, entertaining hyperlocal journalism, we have a lot of exciting projects in the works for 2021. But Nyack News & Views has taken a financial hit due to the pandemic, and we need your help. We would like to keep Nyack News & Views free and open to everyone. But in order to sustain what we do (e.g.: pay local writers, reporters, artists, and editors for their work) we ask that you make an annual contribution of $10/month, or whatever it is that you can afford. If you value local journalism, please help support it.

“It’s easy to get caught up in the national news cycle which often has little information relevant to my day to day life, but Nyack News & Views gives me a window into what’s happening in my local world,” says Skye Leith. “It’s not only where I get important news about the arts, the environment, cycling, as well as local government and business news, but their excellent reporting also informs me on concrete ways that I can ‘think globally and act locally’ to help make our great community better. That’s why my family makes a monthly donation to support their work, and you should too!”

We’ve received many donations like that from Ms. Leith this year, and to those who have donated: Thank you! Your support means a lot, both to the business and to us personally.

Wishing you happy holidays and a much better new year!
