This week in the villages: Police from multiple jurisdictions converged on downtown Nyack on Sunday night following a shooting near a popular Nyack bar. A critical chapter in the future of South Nyack will be presented on Tues night when an outside consultant presents their Dissolution Impact Report. Thursday is Thanksgiving, meaning changes in transportation schedules, trash and recycling pick-ups, and the Nyack Farmers’ Market (which moves to Wednesday). And please remember your neighbors in need: the Nyack Homeless Project is collecting donations of money, new clothes and non-perishable food.
Fatal Shooting on Main Street on Sunday Night
A scuffle in front of a Main Street bar near Franklin Street escalated into a fatal shooting on Sun Nov 22.
Around 7:15p, witnesses reported hearing shots fired. Police apprehended a suspect about an hour later.

At this time there is no threat to public safety and the Orangetown Police Department has located all parties of interest. Thanksgiving Holiday Bus, Train Schedules
Hudson Link will run its weekend schedule on Thanksgiving Day, Thurs, Nov 26, 2020 and a regular schedule on Fri, Nov 27.
Metro-North Hudson Line trains will operate weekend service on Thanksgiving, and on Fri, Nov 27, 2020.
On Thanksgiving, Transport of Rockland (TOR) buses 59, 91, 92, 93, and Loop 3 will operate on a Sunday schedule; there will be no service on buses 94, 94, and 97; bus 91 will not serve New City, Yeager Health Center, or Helen Hayes Hospital; and Loop 1 and Loop 2 will operate on a weekday schedule. On Friday, Nov 27, TOR will operate on a weekday schedule.
On Thanksgiving and Fri, Nov 27, TRIPS paratransit buses will operate A.D.A. service only. Further information for Thanksgiving holiday transportation schedules may be found on rocklandgov.com.

Thanksgiving Week Closures
Village Hall and the DPW will be closed on Thurs, Nov 26 and Fri, Nov 27, 2020. Trash will be picked up on Mon, Nov 23 and Wed, Nov 25, 2020 and recycling will be picked up on Fri, Nov 27, 2020.
Thanksgiving Eve Farmers’ Market
The Nyack Farmers’ Market will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thurs, Nov 26, 2020. It will however be open on Wed, Nov 25 from from 8a-2p so you can still get your Thanksgiving shopping done. Shop local and buy from favorite regional vendors featuring fresh, delicious produce, baked goods, sweet somethings, and other great items. Local artist and craftspeople offer unique gifts, too.
Holiday Parking
There will be NO charge for parking in the village’s Main St lots on Saturdays from Nov 28 to Dec 19, 2020. Please note that on-street meters will still be in effect. Parking is always free village-wide on Sundays. This is a great opportunity to support local businesses to safely shop small at the wonderful stores and enjoy the eclectic restaurant scene.

The Nyack Homeless Project is collecting donations of money, new clothes, and non-perishable food. Please help to feed and clothe your Rockland neighbors in need. Leaf Collection
The DPW will be picking up leaf piles. Do NOT put leaves in the street; they must be on your property. Please use biodegradable bags for leaves and yard waste. NO PLASTIC BAGS will be collected. Leaf Bags are available at Village Hall during the regular hours of 9a–5p.

The Future of the Village of South Nyack
The Village Board of Trustees and Mayor Bonnie Christian have engaged the services of CGR to provide unbiased consultation services related to a Citizen Dissolution of South Nyack Petition that was filed on Aug 14, 2020.
Before votes are cast, it is critical that voters know the potential impacts that will result if this referendum passes. CGR has set up a The Future of the Village of South Nyack website for the purpose of keeping the residents informed about this process and their findings. Please keep in mind that this is an evolving process and that CGR will post information as it becomes available. Sign up for their alerts to stay informed about this important process.
The Village of South Nyack dissolution referendum will be held on Thurs, Dec 17, 2020. Absentee ballot applications are available on the Village of South Nyack website, or contact Village Hall at 845-358-0287. The original, signed application must be returned to the Village Clerk’s Office (cannot be emailed or faxed). Voters with COVID-19 concerns may vote by absentee ballot. The referendum ballot will not be available until the first week of December, but please submit your absentee ballot application as soon as possible. Your ballot must be returned to the Village Clerk’s Office, 282 S Broadway, South Nyack, NY before 9p (the close of polls) on Thurs, Dec 17, 2020.

Landscaper Registry
Per Local Law #1 of 2020 landscapers are now required to register with the Village of South Nyack before performing work in the village. Please inform your landscaper of this update.
“Landscaper” refers to any individual, company or companies that perform any of the following services within the Village of South Nyack on behalf of a property owner or resident of the Village of South Nyack for compensation, without limitation: private landscaping, snow removal, tree removal and trimming, drainage swale installation, drywell installation, driveway paving and installation, installation of decorative walls and pillars, stone/concrete step construction, and lawn sprinkler system installation and maintenance.”
Leaf Collection
Curbside leaf collection will go through Fri, Dec 18, 2020, weather permitting. Please place loose leaves in the gutter in a wind-row for pick-up by the DPW vacuum. The leaves must be free of sticks, rocks, and trash. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to inform their landscape contractor of village requirements. Grass clippings and other yard debris should be put in bio-degradable bags and placed on the grass between the sidewalk and the curb.

Santa’s Mailbox
What better way to mail your letters to Santa than in the beautiful mailboxes set up at the Orangeburg Fire House? The mailboxes will be set up on all Monday nights from 6:30 – 8p and during the toy drive. If your name and address is on your letter, you will receive a response from the North Pole. Orangetown Recreation Santa Claus 5k Run
The 29th annual Orangetown Santa Claus 5K Run will be held on Sun, Dec 13, 2020 at 10:30a. This will be a safe and socially distant event and will follow all NYS guidelines:
- Staggered start based on registrants’ times. Faster runners will go out first.
- Runners will be placed in groups of 10-12 to allow for proper spacing.
- 2 runners will cross the start line every 10-15 seconds.
There will be pre-registration for this event only at communitypass.net. No race day registration will be available. The fee is $25. Unfortunately, children’s races are cancelled for 2020 and there will be no division or overall prizes.
