The Villages: Scholarship Time

This week in the villages: It’s that time of year when high school seniors start receiving college acceptance letters.  To help defer some of the costs of a college education, some area organizations award scholarships to deserving students. Suez Water Company is awarding scholarships to students interested in the water industry and The Rockland Community Foundation administers a variety of scholarships, including the ML by Maria Luisa Scholarship.

For more information, contact Ann Marie Tisty at 845-358-0548 or at annmarietisty@nyack-ny.gov.

Dogs at River Hook Preserve

Leashed dogs are always welcome at River Hook, but dogs cannot run free. It is a shared public space and not everyone is comfortable being approached by a dog. Your pet must be under your direct control at all times. There is also a growing problem with dog waste on the Preserve. Please bag and remove dog waste. It does not just “wash away.” Dog waste stations are positioned at either entrance.

Community Choice Aggregation Public Outreach Meeting

Orangetown is taking part in a New York State-supported partnership program to help its residents and small businesses save money on electricity bills while also supporting renewable power produced in New York. There will be an Open House Q&A meeting on Tue, Feb 25 from 6-7p in the Orangetown Town Hall, Courtroom 1, 26 W Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg. For more information, visit JouleCommunity.com, email CCA@HudsonValleyEnergy.org, or call 845-859-9099.

This will be the last public outreach meeting in the area. Read Earth Matters: Community Choice Aggregation is Happening to learn about the next steps towards, and popular misconceptions about, Community Choice Aggregation.

Gantry Installation Scheduled Within Interchange 10 in South Nyack Will Temporarily Impact Local Traffic

Construction crews are scheduled to install a new overhead sign gantry within Interchange 10 in South Nyack this week. Weather permitting, the work will begin on Wed, Feb. 26 and conclude on Fri, Feb. 28, resulting in traffic delays in the immediate area between 10a and 3p.

During this period, motorists should expect traffic approaching the New York State Thruway on-ramps to be reduced to a single lane controlled by flag persons, along with periodic 15-minute traffic stops. Multiple stops will be required to safely install the new gantry over the roadway and remove an existing gantry. Beginning Monday morning, Variable Message Signs will advise motorists of the upcoming operation.
