The Villages: March into Summer

This week in the villages: The summer season brings lots of opportunities to get out and enjoy all Nyack has to offer, starting with Art Walk and the African American Parade and Festival this weekend. In a few weeks, paying to park gets much easier, with installation of new MuniMeters. And continued roadwork near the Mario Cuomo Bridge in Nyack necessitates overnight lane closures again.

Message from Nyack Mayor Don Hammond

It’s that time of year when things are happening outside and about Nyack–Art Walk, The African American Day Parade, Music on the Hudson, the Classic Car Night, fireworks, and outdoor movies in Memorial Park. We kick off the summer season, Fri, June 14, with ArtWalk, which runs through Sun, June 16. It is a great way to see the works of local artists and take a stroll through the village. On Sat,  June 15, the African American Parade steps off at noon in Memorial Park. The grand marshalls are Nyack’s own Superbowl Champion New England Patriots’ “McCourty Twins” Jason and Devin. After the Parade, enjoy a festival with music, a bounce house, face painting, and more. Music on the Hudson starts on June 25 and runs every Tuesday through July 30. The annual Fourth of July fireworks will be Fri, July 5 in Memorial Park at 9p. Classic Car Night is July 11, starting at 5p. Stroll along Main Street and see antique and classic vehicles. Rain date is July 12. All of these great things are brought to you by the Nyack Park Conservancy, Paulette Ross, Recreation Department, Montefiore Nyack Hospital, and the Chamber of Commerce. — Nyack Mayor Don Hammond

New MuniMeters

Over the summer, you’ll notice something new on the streets of Nyack–new MuniMeters. These new meters are “Pay-by-Plate.” They will allow you to pay by coin, credit card, and by an app on your smartphone. You can easily find the app in the app store under “Flowbird.” For those who want to be prepared, you can set up your account in just a few steps. Create a username and password, enter your vehicle’s license plate number, and a payment method. If you have the app, no need to feed the meter; when time runs out just log into the app and add more time. Rates for on street parking in the MuniMeter area will be $1.00 per hour, and $1.25 per hour on Main Street, between Broadway and Franklin Street. Long term parking in the municipal parking lots will remain at $0.75 per hour.

Broadway Reconstruction Project

The village is continuing the preparation of final design and specifications for the Broadway reconstruction project. It is in the final review stages by the NYSDOT. The Town of Orangetown Sewer Department has recently found that there are a number of buildings on Broadway that will be required to relocate roof downspout and sump pump outlets away from the town’s sewer system and to the village’s stormwater system. The downspout relocation work must be completed prior to the new sidewalks being installed. Once the stormwater issues are resolved, the project will be released for bidding. At this time, a late spring 2020 start of construction is anticipated for this project. If you should have any questions about the Broadway reconstruction project, please contact James Politi, Village Administrator, at 845-358-3581.
