Nyack Weekender: Four Days, 30+ Films

This weekend, enjoy a movie in Edward Hopper’s garden, shop at the Summer Sidewalk Sale, or give a fluffy friend a fur-ever new home. After that, it’s time to unwind and watch more films at the Nyack Film Festival. Or, get a good laugh in with some stand-up comedy.

Friday

  • Set up your blanket or lawn chair in the Edward Hopper House garden and enjoy Films in the Garden. The night starts with Amy Bezunartea’s New Villian, followed by the feature Harold and Maude. 8p, Edward Hopper House, 82 N Broadway, Nyack.
  • Catch Kansas. Top 100 hits, some classic B-Sides, fan favorites, and material from the band’s latest studio album. 8p, Tarrytown Music Hall, 13 Main St, Tarrytown.
  • How many films can you watch in four days? Try 30. The seventh annual Nyack Film Festival is full of great, mostly local productions. Fri and Sat from 7-11p, Sun 2-10p, Nyack Village Theatre, 142 Main St, Suite 110, Nyack.

Saturday

  • The Nyack Chamber of Commerce is hosting Nyack’s first-ever Summer Sidewalk Sale. Visit all of your favorite stores and restaurants and see what great deals they have waiting for you. 12-8p, village-wide, rain or shine.
  • Why should the kids have all the fun? Make crafts, play games, eat snacks, and make friends at Adult(ish) Day Camp. 12-3:30p, Valley Cottage Library, 110 Route 303, Valley Cottage.
  • The Nyack Library presents: The Broken Window, a reading by local author Bea Pohl. Listen to a new fictional drama based on the actual historical life of an African American family’s survival through years of tragedy. 2p, Nyack Library, 59 S Broadway, Nyack.
  • It’s the annual Clear the Shelters day and Hi Tor Animal Care Center is trying to make it a little easier for its cats and dogs to find fur-ever homes by waiving the adoption fees. 5:30-8p, Boulders Stadium, 1 Palisades Credit Union Park Dr, Pomona.
  • Follow in the footsteps of American forces as the sounds of musket and cannon fire from the British camp echo around you. Walk with a guide and learn the details of a battle at the Battlefield Lantern Walking Tour, 8p, 44 Battlefield Rd, Stony Point. Please call 845-786-2521 for reservations.

  • Float the day away at AntiGravity Fundamentals: Open Level, an introductory class perfect for first-timers as well as those already acquainted with the hammock.   • Discover a new way to unwind and reconnect with your friends over your favorite beverages while a local artist guides you through painting your own masterpiece at Earthrise. All ages are welcome. 4-6p, Pinot’s Palette, 412 Market Street, Nanuet.
  • Let Corey Holcomb tickle your funny bone with his dramedy about trying to make a relationship between man and woman work. 7p, Levity Live, 4210 Palisades Center Dr. A-401, West Nyack.
