Tappan Zee Bridge News

Girder/Roadway Deck Placement Will Temporarily Impact River Road/Piermont Avenue
Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is preparing to install steel girders and concrete deck panels for the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge over River Road in Grand View. The materials will connect the eastbound span of the new bridge to the on-land Rockland abutment. The process will take several weeks to complete and will result in minor traffic delays on Piermont Avenue in South Nyack and River Road in Grand View.

From Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 18, expect single-lane alternating traffic and 20-minute traffic stops. During this period, motorists should expect traffic to be reduced to a single lane controlled by flag persons between 7a and 5:30p, Monday through Friday. Between 9a and 2:30p, motorists can expect periodic, 20-minute traffic stops, as steel girders are lifted into position over the roadway.
Overnight Lane and Ramp Closures in Tarrytown
TZC is also scheduled to continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the bridge’s Westchester landing. The work will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) and require overnight lane closures on the northbound Thruway. Work will also necessitate closing the northbound Thruway exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) on-ramp from Route 119 during the overnight of Wednesday, May 9. Drivers will be detoured approximately one mile east on Route 119 to access the northbound Thruway (see map below). The exit 9 off-ramp will remain accessible from the northbound Thruway.

At least one lane will remain open at all times. Specific lane closure times are listed in the chart below.
