This week in the villages: Recycling takes center stage this week. Both Nyack and South Nyack will be collecting your unwanted and unused electronics. And parents, it’s time to sign up your kids for the Spring Recreation programs. Earth Day Saturday features a kid friendly bike lane downtown and worm races. TZC continues work near the Westchester landings, with evening lane closures approaching the bridge.

Earth Day Weekend Events
- On Friday, April 20, in celebration of Earth Day, the Village of Nyack Department of Public Works will be collecting E-waste. What does that include? Computers, tablets, laptops, cellphones, televisions, printers, monitors, fax and copy machines, VCRs, CD players, radios, telephones and ink jet and laser cartridges. No other household hazardous waste will be picked up. Contact the Rockland County HHW hotline at (845) 364-2444 for information on how to dispose of items not listed above. Please leave items neatly at the curb and no earlier than 7p the evening before pick-up.
- Want to combine the excitement of an earth worm race with blending your own smoothie using bicycle power? Nyack’s Earth Day celebration on Sat April 21 honors Mother Earth with fun family activities. 12n-4p, Veterans Memorial Park gazebo, Cedar & Main St.
- You can’t get more earth friendly than getting around without burning gasoline. During the Earth Day celebration on April 21, moms & dads & kids of younger ages are invited to bring their bicycles downtown to try out the one block one-day only dedicated bike lane “demonstration project” adjacent to the Earth Day site. Brought to you by the Greater Nyack Bike/Walk Master Plan project, 12n-4p, Burd –> Cedar –> Church –> S Broadway, in downtown Nyack.

Registration is now open for the Spring 2018 Recreation Programs, including Mini Dragons Kung Fu, Beginner Tennis, Basketball, Teen Aerial Yoga, Dramarama and Ukulele with Rivertown Music.
Tappan Zee Bridge News
Overnight Lane Closures in Tarrytown
Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is scheduled to continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the bridge’s Westchester landing. The work will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the Thruway when the second span opens later this year. It requires overnight lane closures on the northbound New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287). At least one lane will remain open at all times. Specific lane closure times are listed in the chart below.
