Nyack Weekender: Black Friday Edition

Tis’ the Season to Shop ‘Till You Drop, beginning on this Black Friday after Thanksgiving. Here are a few things to do to complement the holiday spirit: check out the Incredible Creature: Inside/Out exhibit at 95 1/2 Main and the Pop-Up Window Shop. Need a little bit more Thanksgiving before the weekend is over? Take part in a nineteenth century Thanksgiving, then take a hike to work off that second helping of apple pie. There’s also music to sooth your soul: a blend of gospel and blues, jazz piano and a tribute to Fleetwood Mac.

Black Friday Pop Up Window at 95 1/2 MainDon’t miss the last days of the Incredible Creature: Inside/Out featuring Nyack area artists, Michael Calabro, Kris Campbell, Julia Grosso, Gretchen Heinel, Emily Orling, Diane Rosen, Lauren Rudolph, Dan White and more at Nyack’s newest gallery, event and learning space, 95 1/2 Main. There will be a Pop-Up Window Shop all weekend long featuring the handmade goods and art from local artists including jewelry by Jane Cowles, custom fragrance and candles by Esther Dederich, art/music by Katie Elevitch, yoga mats by Jamie Gaviola, ceramics by Jim Shaughnessy and more. Proceeds directly support local artists and the programs and exhibitions of 95 1/2 Main. All are welcome, this is a kid friendly space. Fri from 12-9p, Sat from 12-8p, Sun from 1-8p, 95 1/2 Main St, Nyack.

  • Work off some of those Thanksgiving calories and then eat some more at the Post-Thanksgiving Day Hike and Potluck Feast. Meet at Marydell Faith and Life Center and hike to the top of Hook Mountain and then return for a potluck feast with old and new friends. Bring enough food for the people in your group and some to share and please bring your own plates, utensils and cups. All are welcome whether you hike or just enjoy the meal.   • Take a break from Black Friday shopping and hear the Alexis P. Suter Band artfully blend the lines between gospel and blues at The Turning Point. 8:30p, 468 Piermont Ave, Piermont.

Small Business Saturday

  • The holiday shopping season officially kicks off with special “shop small” deals in local establishments, as well as “Small Business Saturday” rebates for American Express cardholders in participating stores. Cardholders who want to take advantage of the American Express program should register at Shopsmall.com. As a reminder parking in Nyack is FREE  every weekend through December 31 so shop, play and dine to your hearts content.
  • Bring the whole family to a Candy Cane Making Demonstration at historic Lucas Candies. 12p & 3p, Sat & Sun through Christmas Eve, 6 Main St, Haverstraw.
  • The internationally known mainstream jazz pianist Larry Fuller Trio bring their extraordinary command of jazz piano styles, blending bebop, swing and stride techniques with an assurance and breathtking ease rarely experienced live today to Maureen’s Jazz Cellar. 8p & 9:30p, 2 N Broadway, Nyack.
  • Fans of Fleetwood Mac won’t want to miss Tusk at the Tarrytown Music Hall. This ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute band covers all the greatest hits and more. 8p, 13 Main St, Tarrytown.

Sunday

  • Take a Classic Holiday Mansion Tour at Lyndhurst Mansion and get ready for an over-the-top display of rarely seen children’s toys, holiday dishes, silver, jewels, and clothes that belonged to the Duchess of Talleyrand to create vignettes of holiday presents and baubles. Every hour 10a – 4p, 635 S Broadway, Tarrytown.
  • Step back in time to the nineteenth century for Thanksgiving Time at Mrs. Kearney’s Tavern. Enjoy hot cider and treats as the kids take part in period games and amusements. The tavern’s musician will perform music of the time period. 1-4p, north end of the Alpine picnic area, Exit 2 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
