The Villages: A Quiet Thanksgiving Week

This week in the villages: Thursday is Thanksgiving, and, though it won’t be a quiet week at the bars on Main Street, it will be a quiet week for municipal meetings. There are upcoming information sessions on the health plan options available in the New York of State Health’s Health Plan Marketplace. TZx takes off for TDay. And drainage work will close down a couple of lanes on the Thruway, but only for one night. Drive safe.

New York State

Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee will be partnering with New York State of Health for a series of Health Insurance Information Sessions at four Rockland libraries on November 21, December 2, and December 9. A New York State of Health representative will provide an overview of health insurance options. Community Health Advocates and local Marketplace Navigators will be present to answer questions and provide resources.
NY State of Health Executive Director Donna Frescatore said, “Letting people know about coverage through the Marketplace and helping them enroll in coverage is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do because it brings healthier people into the insurance market.” She said she joins NY State of Health in being “as committed as ever to ensuring that consumers have enrollment assistance in communities throughout the state.

Village of Nyack

The Nyack Holiday Window Project will kick off on Wednesday, December 13 and run through January. This is the third year that this creative endeavor and community event will take place. The Village of Nyack, in conjunction with downtown businesses, artists in the community and an awesome collection of sponsors, will fill empty storefronts and other business windows with a creative version of the holiday windows of New York City. Artists, some local and some from outside of the area, create holiday-themed windows that are revealed at a wonderful event that involves walking the village from window to window. A map describes the windows, the artists and the sponsors that make this possible.

Rockland County Dept of Transportation

On Thanksgiving Day, TAPPAN ZEExpress (TZx) buses will not operate. Transport of Rockland (TOR) buses will operate Sunday schedules. TRIPS paratransit buses will operate A.D.A. service only. It’s business as usual for TOR and TZx on Friday Nov 24.

Tappan Zee Bridge News

The progress near the Rockland and Westchester shorelines allows TZC to continue construction on the piers for the new bridge’s second span. TZC is installing rebar and pouring concrete to create the piers as dismantling efforts move further away from the shorelines.

Drainage Work
Drainage work will require overnight closures of New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) northbound/westbound traffic lanes from exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) to exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on Monday, Nov. 20. Specific lane closure times are listed in the chart below.
