This week in the villages: Ready for a change of seasons? Last week was the end of election season; now it’s time to display some holiday spirit. Clarkstown is spreading some holiday cheer by keeping property taxes flat. There’s a bicycle plan bake off this week among transportation design firms vying to develop a multi-village Bike/Walk Master Plan. And Mayor Jen White holds her last “Downtown” meeting as mayor on Tues at 9a in Village Hall (it’s open to the public).
What Happened on Election Night?
Nyack will be getting a new mayor on January 1. Former trustee and deputy mayor Don Hammond will succeed Jen White who didn’t run for re-election. Trustees Marie Lorenzini and Elijah Reichlin-Melnick were re-elected. Chris Day will be the new Orangetown Supervisor. His father, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, held off the East Ramapo religious bloc by developing his own voting bloc.

Nyack Holiday Window Project 2017
The Nyack Holiday Window Project will kick off on Wednesday, December 13 and run through January. This is the third year that this creative endeavor and community event will take place. The Village of Nyack, in conjunction with downtown businesses, artists in the community and an awesome collection of sponsors, will fill empty storefronts and other business windows with a creative version of the holiday windows of New York City. Artists, some local and some from outside of the area, create holiday themed windows that are revealed at a wonderful event that involves walking the village from window to window. A map describes the windows, the artists and the sponsors that make this all possible.
