The Villages: Driving, Parking and a Data Center

This week in the villages: There will be bridge work over and under the Mario M Cuomo bridge. It’s Week 3 of the River Road closure under the Tappan Zee Bridge in South Nyack and overnight lane and exit closures in the southbound direction. Scarier still: the Nyack Halloween parade will also close down some local downtown streets for a few hours on Saturday. The Memorial Park playground has reopened (mostly). The Town of Orangetown finalized the sale of 60 acres of town-owned land for construction of a data center.

Memorial Park Playground
The children’s playground at Memorial Park has now been reopened; however, the slide area that was under construction will be fenced off temporarily to give the plants a chance.
Catch the 2nd biggest Halloween Parade in the NY Metro area (our village is a close second to The Village) and the 4th best in the USA. But don’t take our word for it — this is the gospel from The Travel Channel (does make you wonder what the official rating scale is for Halloween Parades. GPM — Goblins Per Mile?). The Nyack Halloween Parade steps off at 3p on Sat 10/28.

Town of Orangetown

J.P. Morgan Chase has finalized the purchase of 60 acres of Orangetown-owned land at the Rockland Psychiatric Center to build a data center. The total value of the investment is approximately $490 million including $7.5 million paid to Orangetown, an estimated $40 million in remediation costs, a new electrical substation, and data center building construction. Off-site improvements include an upgrade to nearby sewers, water lines, a new traffic signal at the intersection of Convent Road and Third Avenue, and improved nearby access roads.
The data center project will remediate dozens of abandoned Rockland Psychiatric center buildings and create a new tax rateable for Orangetown. Town officials say this sets the stage to study developing a park on adjacent waterfront parcels.

Tappan Zee Bridge News

River Road, near the Tappan Zee and Mario Cuomo bridges, will be closed again this week. And this week will again see construction activities which will require multiple overnight lane closures of New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) southbound/eastbound traffic lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9).
Work will also require the overnight closure of the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp. Southbound/eastbound drivers will be detoured to the exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp, shown below.

All four Rockland-bound (northbound/westbound) lanes will remain open during the operation. Specific lane and ramp closure times are listed in the chart below.
