Nyack, August 6 — If you are going into the city today, Rockland County has 16 ways to make your commute a little bit easier.
Nyack News And Views has updated our tzxBus.com online bus/train application to include the expanded Sunday service. Saturday riders take note: there’s an expanded service on both Sundays AND Saturdays with new arrival and departure times.
Rockland residents can thank the MTA for adding Sundays to the Tappan Zee Express. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is funding the cost for the service expansion. The expanded service includes a revised Saturday schedule with eight new and two extended trips for a total of 32 trips. Sundays on the TZx offer the same number of routes as Saturday service.
So Long, TZx. Hello, LHTL.
Sadly, the new and improved Tappan Zee Express will be short lived. Although cross-Hudson riders will continue to see mass transit improvements, TZx service will be replaced the LHTL in 2018 after the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge opens.
The Lower Hudson Transit Link, a new bus service that will be run by an operator hired by the New York State Dept of Transportation, will offer new buses, free WiFi and next-bus arrival countdown clocks and new bus shelters. An Intelligent Traffic System will improve travel times by holding green lights when LHTL buses approach each intersection.
Tappan Zee Express buses are scheduled to sync up with Metro North Trains in Tarrytown. TZx weekday service includes 38 eastbound trips and 37 westbound trips, operating between the hours of 4:47a and 1:30a. TZx commuters can travel express during the AM peak from the Palisades Center Park & Ride to Tarrytown in 20 to 30 minutes.
