Penguin Plunge: This Sunday Being Cold Never Felt So Warm

For three children, Nyack’s coldest tradition can feel like its warmest. Each year, at the tail end of winter, community members from Rockland, Westchester, New York City and Bergen County prove that they have ice water in their veins by, well, jumping into ice water. The Penguin Plunge is an annual benefit to help three children with serious illnesses — each of whose courage puts a cold swim into perspective.
This year marks the tenth annual dip in the Hudson, and it is set for Sunday, March 5, from 12n-2p at Nyack’s Memorial Park. The event will raise funds for Molly McGovern, a teenager from Blauvelt who is being treated for a second brain tumor removal; Gabriella Carney a 2-year-old from Tappan suffering from glycogen storage disease; and Noah Diaz, a 5-year-old from Congers suffering from congenital heart and cardiovascular defects and a genetic disorder called Kabuki syndrome.
Since 2008, the Penguin Plunge has raised over $250,000 for sick children. Each shiver matters. Register for the Penguin Plunge here.
