The Villages This Week: Jan 16

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemorating the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.  In New York, it is a federal and state holiday. Government and state offices, the stock and bond markets, banks, post offices, and public schools are closed, as are the village halls.
In Nyack, the Nyack branch of  the NAACP will commemorate the legacy and dream of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at an annual interfaith service at 2p.  Hosted by Reverend Willie L. Hairston, pastor with a message by Pastor Jairite Anderson-Cole of St. Philips AME Zion Church.  Pilgrim Baptist Church, 80 N. Franklin St.  For more information call 845-358-1497.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey will be speaking at the St. Charles AME Zion Church Annual MLK, Jr. Day Commemoration Breakfast at 9a, where she will be awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. The St. Charles AME Zion Church is located at 432 Valentine Avenue in Sparkill.
