Nyack, Nov 9 — US Senator Charles Schumer, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, NYS Senator David Carlucci, and NYS Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee won re-election in the 2016 general election.
In Nyack, Democrats re-elected Louise Parker and replaced Deputy Mayor Don Hammond with newcomer Donna Lightfoot Cooper. A spirited write-in campaign by Hammond’s supporters fell woefully short, with write-in votes accounting for only 5.7% of the vote. Lightfoot Cooper finished on top with 44.6% of the vote followed by Parker at 38%. Barbara Cohig, who ran on the Working Families line after failing to make the Democratic cut in the September primary, received 11.7% of the vote. Parker and Lightfoot Cooper, who won the Democratic primary in the mostly democratic Village of Nyack, coasted to victory in the general election.
In the race for US President, Hillary Clinton received just over half of all votes cast in Rockland County (52.7%), followed by Donald Trump (45.7%) and third party candidates Gary Johnson (1.7%) and Jill Stein (1%).
