Nyack Weekender: Halloween Hauntings

It’s time to get your BOO on. On Friday you can freak out at Frankenstein LIVE with a 15 piece orchestra. On Saturday it’s Nyack’s annual HUUUUGE Halloween Parade, Costume Caberet and Monster Mash followed by a Field of Screamz. This weekly list of treats sans tricks is brought to you by The Arts Council of Rockland.

Friday

  • Frankenstein Live 10/28/2016, ArtsRock Arts Angels, Rivertown FilmDon’t miss Frankenstein LIVE!, the 1931 horror classic accompanied by 15 members of the Chappaqua Orchestra performing an original score by Michael Shapiro. 8p at Nyack High School, 360 Christian Herald Rd.
  • Chart-topping Americana folk singer and songwriter Caroline Doctorow performs with special guest, Jamie block. 8p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
  • The renowned Eric Mintel Quartet performs jazz at 8:30p at Sixty 5 On Main, 65 Main St, Nyack.
  • GraceMusic presents its annual Costume Cabaret featuring Broadway hits, classic torch songs and jazz standards in costume. Celebrate Halloween the musical way with a spooktacular evening of music, food and drinks. 7p at Grace Church, 130 1st Ave, Nyack.
  • Take A Shot in the Dark this weekend and see the 1940s murder mystery musical at Antrim Playhouse. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p. 15 Spook Rock Rd, Wesley Hills.
  • The Sculpture in the Garden at the Hopper House Art Center features the work of James Tyler and Santi-Hitorangi. Exhibit on display Wed – Sun, 12 -5p, through Oct 23, 82 N Broadway, Nyack.

Saturday

  • nyack-halloween-parade-2013-282It’s the 29th anniversary for the largest parade of its kind outside NYC. The 2016 Nyack Halloween Parade begins with a costume and float contest from 3 – 5p in Memorial Park before the main event steps off at 5:30p. Live music by the anime cover band Moshi Moshi at 3p at the Gazebo, as well as local HS marching bands in the parade. 3 – 7p in downtown Nyack.
  • But wait, there’s more Halloween family fun. Immediately following the parade, head over to the Nyack Center for the 10th annual Monster Mash. Live entertainment by The Bossy Frog Band. Play goulish games for $5, eat fiendishly fine food for only $5 a plate. Free admission. Until 8p, 58 Depew Ave at S Broadway.
  • Love, revenge, and mistaken identity. It’s all there in Die Fledermaus, an operetta by the Hudson Lyric Opera. This English production is fully staged with an orchestra, sets and costumes. 7:30p Sat, 2p Sun at Trinity United Methodist Church, 47 E Main St, Stony Point.
  • Experience Distance Voices, a unique multi-media performance that combines film and Yamaha’s cutting-edge Disklavier technology. Hosted by Yamaha Artist Frederic Chiu. 8p at Union Arts Center, 2 Union St, Sparkill.
  • field_of_screamz_image_large_largeThe Field of Screamz is the scariest haunted house in the Hudson Valley, presented by the Rockland Boulders. 7 – 8p at Palisades Credit Union Park, 1 Provident Bank Park Dr, Pomona.
  • It’s a little bit of Germany right here in Rockland County. 2016 Oktoberfest serves up German food and beer, entertainment and craft vendors. Sat & Sun from 12:30 – 5p, Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Palisades Interstate Parkway, Bear Mountain.
  • The Historical Society of Nyack hosts Van Houten’s Landing Historic Neighborhood exhibit. Weekly on Sat from 1-4p at 50 Piermont Ave, Nyack.

Sunday

  • The rising R&B, jazz, calypso and gospel singer, Stephen Fuller, performs with a trio at 1:30p at Valley Cottage Library, 110 Rt 303.
  • master of alaska bookcoverSuffern hosts its Halloween Parade and costume contest from 2 – 4p at Downtown Suffern, Lafayette Ave.
  • There’s a shipwreck, a forced marriage, native massacres and an assassination attempt, when local author and South Nyack resident Roger Seiler reads from his latest book, Master of Alaska, the 18th century story of Alaska’s first Russian governor.  3p at the Nyack Library, 20 S Broadway.
