We’re serving breakfast every Thursday morning at Grace’s Kitchen, thanks to the generosity of the Grace Church congregation, Nyack neighbors and friends. The program grew out of a need for a food program on Thursdays, one of the only days there is no feeding program in Nyack. A small group met and decided to test the waters with Grace’s Kitchen.
On Thursday, October 6 Rev. Owen Thompson cut the ribbon for our new chapter of service. Mayor, Jen Laird-White was there as well as People to People Executive Director Diane Serratore, friends and well-wishers from across our community. The mission is to provide a free, healthy and delicious breakfast every Thursday, from 7a-8:30a, 52 weeks a year to anyone in the community in need at Grace Church. Breakfast is served by volunteers on china with silverware and table linens.
The support for the program has been amazing! We have raised over $5,000 to date in donations and more than 60 people have volunteered to make breakfast, set up,clean up and shop. Several families have offered to participate on holidays like Thanksgiving.
The program is run by teams of volunteers. Currently we have eight teams and will be taking names for more. The idea is that each team would only serve once in a cycle, so for now every 8 weeks. This is a non-denominational opportunity.
