Restoration Art Show Benefits The John Green House

The oldest house in Nyack will be a beneficiary of a new art show opening next month near Nyack. The exhibition at Orangeburg’s Volition Gallery focuses on restoration art featuring the work of 12 local photographers, painters, and sculptors. Some of the proceeds will go to support restoration of the John Green House, the oldest house in Nyack.

The show features the work of Carlos ‘Beto’ Sierra, Michael Craft, Lisa D’Amico, Rob Kovacs, Joe LaMattina, Richard Lear, Carlos Ortiz, Felipe Rodriguez, Aviva Sakolsky, Jim Shaughnessy, Ramon Sierra and Chris Yacopino.
Most of the artwork in the show was inspired by each artist’s personal exploration of ‘restoration’ of mind and spirit. Most of the artists explored these themes using a variety of mixed media. The exhibit includes Jim Shaughnessy’s ceramic vessels whirl in seas of muted glazes and are woven with naturally dried straw; Michael Craft’s intense photos use the John Green House as a dark, brooding backdrop and Joe LaMattina’s canvases evolve in an uninhibited manner with layers of collage materials, paint and ripping methods.
The work of the John Green Coalition to preserve the John Green House was featured in the recent documentary, This House Matters.
The Restoration Art Show runs from October 9-31, 2016 at the Volition Gallery located at Bell-ans, 103 S. Greenbush Road in Orangeburg, NY. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 9 from 2p-5p.
