Save for the Republican presidential nominee, physical comedy is virtually extinct in contemporary culture. Tonight, though, the Hopper House will be celebrating two luminaries of slapstick: the great early Classical Hollywood comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy. Three Laurel and Hardy films will be played at the Nyack Center, with accompaniment from Nyack resident Steve Bernstein and the Millennial Territory Orchestra.
Bernstein, a trumpet player, is the band leader for Butler, Bernstein and the Hot 9; he also plays in the jazz band Sex Mob and was previously a member of the Lounge Lizards. This past weekend he played in the Newport Jazz Festival, and last week he performed at Nyack Memorial Park for Nyack’s Jazz Week.
The Hopper House enthusiastically describes the event as “[a] fusion of classic jazz and comic film for the family!” In addition to the music and the show, Gail Heller & Cris Spezial of Nyack Gourmet will provide Gelato. Refreshments will also be served. The Hopper House recommends bringing a lawn chair. Tickets are $35 per person and $20 for Hopper House members and students, while children under 10 are admitted for free.
