Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle. They are used mainly in Tibetan Buddhist tradition where sand mandalas represent multi-dimensional fields of spiritual consciousness and the state of enlightenment. They have spiritual and ritual significance in many religions and cultures as well, i.e., the Native American medicine wheel is a form of mandala and symbolizes sacred ceremonial space and the circle of life. A circle represents many things that are familiar to us: the earth, the moon, the sun, and the orbits of the planets to name a few.
Got the winter blues or are you feeling stressed? On Thursdays at 11a during the month of February, the Nyack library invites you to Magnificent Mandalas, a coloring circle for adults. Forget about your cell phone, focus on coloring a mandala, allow your brain to calm, relax, and add some Zen to your day! Coloring sheets featuring mandalas and colored pencils will be provided. Listen to relaxing music while you color.
Even though adult coloring seems to be the latest craze (check the list of top selling books on Amazon), in the early 1900s the famed psychologist, Carl Jung, prescribed coloring mandalas to his patients because it helped them become calmer and have less anxiety and stress. If you can’t make it to the library on Thursday mornings, there are many websites where you can download a mandala coloring page for free. Just add a few colored pens or pencils and take some time to relax.

Create a pretty hanging decoration for a sunny window using armature wire, fine gauge wire and assorted beads. A $5 materials fee will be collected at the door. Registration is required, as space is limited
