Last week there was Tappan Zee Bridge action inside and outside. Noise barrier construction continued along the northbound New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) on the west bank of the Hudson River. And in South Nyack Village hall, the Village Board chose their fave configuration for the future SUP (shared use path) parking.
Tappan Zee Constructor crews worked on tearing down the retaining wall between the parking lot at the Eagle Rock apartments on Piermont Avenue and the Thruway. A temporary noise-reducing fence and concrete barrier are being installed as the demolition progresses.
Next week, crews plan to drill holes into the soil to install the foundations for noise barriers along the southbound Thruway between the South Broadway bridge and River Road. After the foundations are completed, concrete panels that form the noise barriers will be installed.
If you are driving on the Thruway after 8p any night next week, be prepared for some delays caused by continuing work on the all-electronic toll collection near the Exit 10. The South Nyack on-ramp will be closed overnight on Wed and Thurs (1/20 & 21). There will be roadwork on the southbound Thruway, from
exit 12 to exit 10, on Sat 1/16 (beginning at 9p), Sun 1/17 (10p), Mon & Tues at 8p and Wed-Fri (1/20-22) beginning at 9p.
Last Tuesday, the South Nyack Village Board passed a resolution to express their support for “Configuration F,” a plan which includes a 54 spot parking lot on land now owned by the state behind the South Nyack Village Hall. Configuration F would cost the New York State approximately $15 million, about $4 million more than the cheapest plan. As of last Spring, the Village of South Nyack has already received $4.69 million in benefits from the Tappan Zee Bridge project.
