Holiday Kid Shows Around Rockland

It’s (holiday) showtime! There are seasonal shows and holiday themed events almost every weekend from now through New Years. Here are 11 shows in and near Nyack fit for families and children of all ages.

Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!) – The Garage Theatre

Three actors – John Alvarez, Michael Carlton, and James FitzGerald retell every Christmas story in only 90 minutes! Some famous characters include Charlie Brown, The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, George Bailey, and Rudolph. Viewers will be enchanted as they listen to sing-alongs of carols and take in holiday traditions around the world. This is a fun filled show for the whole family!

Vienna Boys Choir – Christmas in Vienna

There is no better way to spend a Friday night then to listen to a special holiday program brought to you by the world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir. Vienna Boys Choir performs 80 concerts a year in North America which are usually sold out. Music lovers will be enticed with holiday favorites and classical masterpieces.  All ages will appreciate this musical event.

Holiday Lights 2015 FINALHoliday Lights of Nyack

Saturday, December 5, 2015 4p-6p at Veteran’s Park Gazebo

Light up the night and share season’s greetings with your neighbors at the annual Holiday Lights of Nyack. Live caroling, tasty warm refreshments, the tree lighting, a holiday story reading, and a visit by Santa in the big red fire truck are on the itinerary of what to expect at this merry event. Families of all ages will enjoy this festive night out.

This free event, sponsored by the Nyack Chamber of Commerce, takes place at Veteran’s Park Gazebo at the corner of Main Street and Cedar Street, Nyack. In the event of rain (or snow!), the Holiday Lights of Nyack will be rescheduled for Sunday December 6.

The Nutcracker

Sunday, December 6, 2015 3p at The Tarrytown Music Hall

This is a holiday classic that you do not want to miss. Families of all ages will enjoy this beautiful and artistic performance by the New York Theatre Ballet. Audience members will be enchanted for this hour long production and will leave dancing.

Carol and Candlelight

Sunday, December 6, 2015 8p at Nyack College

Directors Dr. Glenn Koponen and Ms. Jennifer Scott are excited to share a 67th Annual holiday favorite which will include performances by Nyack College’s Handbell Choir, Women’s Chorale, and Brass Ensemble. Performances will include seasonal music ranging from classical to contemporary and carols from France, Austria, England, and the United States. This program will conclude with a deeply moving Candlelight Ceremony.

Admission to this event is free. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the cost of the annual Carol & Candlelight Tour. This concert is held at Pardington Hall, Nyack College, 45 South Boulevard, Nyack.

Chamberfest Benefit Concert

Thursday, December 10, 2015 8p at Nyack College

Directors Dr. Tammy Lum and Dr. Marie Kenote allure audience members with a performance of the upcoming Winterium, “Chamberfest Asia 2016” tour program. Choral and chamber music by Asian and Western composers in the sacred, classical, folk, Broadway, and gospel genres will be showcased in this cross-cultural concert.

Admission to this benefit concert is free. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the cost of the tour. This concert is held at Pardington Hall, Nyack College, 45 South Boulevard, Nyack.

Winter Holiday Concert with Sukey Molloy and Friends!

Friday, December 11, 2015 11a-12p at the Nyack Library

Sukey Molloy and Friends want to celebrate the winter holidays with ages two to five years old.  Sunny and Tick Tock will join Sukey Molloy in singing songs from different cultures.

To register for this concert, please contact the Children’s Room at 845-358-3370 x228. Priority will be given to Nyack and Valley Cottage residents. The Nyack Library is located at 59 S. Broadway.

Mr. Dickens Tells A Christmas Carol

Sunday, December 13, 2015-Sunday, December 29

Lyndhurst Mansion, Tarrytown

Charles Dickens’ own readings of this classical tale will be performed in this hour long theatrical show. The travails of Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim will be brought to life on the first floor of the Lyndhurst mansion. Actor Michael Muldoon uses Dickens’ actual scripts as he tours the mansion “meeting” the different characters and spirits with his guests. This show is appropriate for all ages!

Music and Readings in a Holiday Spirit

The Nyack Center will host its 20th annual holiday festival and community gathering. This enjoyable holiday extravaganza is produced and hosted by Kevin Pariseau and Elliott Forrest. The evening will include local talent with music from Steven Bernstein, Nyack High School Advanced Chorus, Cause Kidz, and readings from Sakina Jaffrey, Dennis Boutsikaris, Kevin Pariseau, and many more! Darrell Larson will be making a special return appearance along with Sean Fleming – a celtic rock musician.

The Laurie Berkner Band – A Holiday Celebration

Saturday, December 19, 2015 11a at the Tarrytown Music Hall

The Queen of children’s music – Laurie Berkner and her band return to The Tarrytown Music Hall to celebrate the holidays. The holiday concert will include traditional songs such as “Jingle Bells” and “Frosty the Snowman” along with songs from A Laurie Berkner Christmas which includes “Santa’s Coming To My House Tonight,” “The Hanukkah Song,” and “Candle Chase.” Laurie and her band will also play the favorites “We Are The Dinosaurs,” “Victor Vito,” and “Pig On Her Head.” Kids should plan to bring a stuffed animal for their heads, their dancing shoes, and their singing voices!

The Bossy Frog Band’s Happy New Year Concert

Monday, December 28, 2015 11a at the Nyack Center

Come celebrate the holidays with your little ones and The Bossy Frog Band. Children will be dancing along to the sounds of the fiddle, banjo, bass, six-foot tall dancing frog, monkey, and crab. After the concert, a noisemaker workshop will follow. This concert is perfect for children up to eight years old.
