The Arts Have A New Digital Home in Rockland

ACOR CalendarThe arts have a new digital home in Rockland. The Arts Council of Rockland and NyackNewsAndViews have launched the Rockland Arts Calendar to promote Rockland County cultural events in the Lower Hudson Valley and North Jersey.

“This project is one of a number of initiatives that the Arts Council is taking to further it’s mission of contributing to the quality of life for all area residents,” said Arts Council Executive Director Janey Tannenbaum.  “We believe that this calendar will not only help build an audience for the talented artists in our county, but it will help generate  economic development and help promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.”

Accolades For ACOR

“Thanks to the Arts Council of Rockland and NyackNewsAndViews, the region will have a one-stop guide to enjoy our county’s packed cultural calendar.”
— Mayor Jen Laird-White

“The productivity of individual artists and arts organizations are an important part of the economic life of our county. The cultural tourists that this calendar will attract will support our restaurants and shopping districts.”
— Orangetown Supervisor Andy Stewart

The calendar will serve as a comprehensive guide to the broad range of arts and entertainment throughout the county to art lovers in New York City, Westchester and Bergen counties. “This project is a great way to use technology to connect Rockland’s artists with their fans in the county and beyond its boarders,” said NYS Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland).  “The entire community will benefit from this digital calendar, which will keep us informed about the wide variety of community-based initiatives and events that reflect Rockland’s rich cultural diversity,” added NYS Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Orangetown, Ramapo).

ACOR’s initiative will include publicity outreach to travel, entertainment, digital media and calendar editors to increase the profile and expand the audience for Rockland artists and arts organizations. “We have created the Amazon.com of Rockland arts initiatives: one-stop shopping for all the region’s cultural needs,” said Tannenbaum.

The Rockland Cultural Arts Calendar complements an existing comprehensive calendar of Nyack and Lower Hudson events on NyackNewsAndViews. The Nyack Calendar includes regular  updates from Arts Angels, Rivertown Film, Friends of The Nyack, the Nyack and Valley Cottage Libraries, Nyack Village Hall, the Historical Society of the Nyacks, Childrens’ Shakespeare Theatre, the Nyack Chamber of Commerce and Walk to the Beat. The Nyack and Rockland Arts calendars can be found on NyackNewsAndViews.com under the CALENDAR link at the top of every page.

The Arts Council of Rockland is a nonprofit institution dedicated to advancing the arts and the role of artists within the Rockland community, providing grant opportunities, technical assistance, and information to artists and arts organizations.

Tannenbaum joined ACOR in 2013 and brings 20 years of experience in the arts and literature. She previously served as the Director at the Smithsonian Institution Press and the Director of the Bowery Poetry Club/Bowery Arts & Sciences.

Under Tannenbaum’s leadership ACOR has expanded its mission. In 2014, the Arts Council began hosting public programs that celebrate and support the arts community in Rockland County. Outreach initiatives included organizing a sold out concert of the United States Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus and launching CreativeWorks at GARNER, the new alternative, multidisciplinary performance series located in the GARNER Historic District at the Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center in May 2014.
